KentFolk Events 2005

KentFolk is hosting a number of events this year - all fiddle led - now why will that be no surprise to my friends ? :

  • Thu. 17th March - a St. Patrick's Night special, with Camine : Top quality celtic music. Ramona Egle on fiddle and whistle, Zinta Egle on guitar. Remarkable harmony singing from these twin sisters. In the Red Lion Hotel, Canterbury Road, Wingham, Nr. Canterbury, Kent. CT3 1BB

  • Sat. 7th May - a Spring Cajun Dance, with Wild Turkey - fiddler Yves Langlois, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Taylor on guitar/accordion/harmonica. In the Littlebourne thatched barn.
  • Sat. 24th September - an Autumn Barn Dance, with a Longstone/Camine fusion that was such a success 2 years ago : fiddle Ramona Egle, guitar Zinta Egle, and Chris Taylor. In the Littlebourne thatched barn. The caller is the highly experienced Martin Young from the A2 Barn Dance Band.

The flag-ship is the "Fiddlers Various" long week-end,
with pub fiddle gigs, and a fiddle showcase in the Littlebourne Barn, preceeded by two fiddle workshops :

  • Fri. 3rd June - Saskia Tomkins in the King William IV in Littlebourne.
  • Sun. 5th June, 10am - Fiddle Workshop, led by Ben Paley.
  • Sun. 5th June, 2pm - Fiddle Workshop, led by Saskia Tomkins.
  • Sun. 5th June, 7:15pm - "Fiddlers Various" Showcase in the Thatched Barn, Littlebourne.
  • Mon. 6th June - Monkey Puzzle with Laura Targett in the Red Lion in Wingham. "Curry and Ceilidh".
And the legendary Steáfán Hannigan (all British uillean pipe champion and virtuoso bodhran player) came down for the weekend, and he and multi-instrumentalist Chris Taylor accompanied the fiddlers during the Fiddle Showcase.

The King William IV aim to have on tap a wide range of unusual beers for the fiddlers' weekend - thanks !

Oh and I can now confirm, as part of the Canterbury Festival, KentFolk has initiated two Umbrella Events (U16a, U16b):

"Fiddling around the World"

  • U16a: Sunday 16th October, 2pm - Virtuoso fiddler Chris Haigh will be giving a talk, illustrated on the fiddle, from the laptop, and with ethnic fiddles. : "Fiddling around the World",
  • U16b: Sunday 16th October, 2pm -a fiddle concert with Chris Haigh and accordionist Alan Dunn will be giving an evening concert: "Fiddling around the World".
