Broadstairs Cultural Centre, in Crow Hill, as part of its programme of
music on a Wednesday night, plays host to a great Blues sound on
Wednesday 30 June at 8.00 pm.
New Zealand born Brendan Power, renowned as one of the best harmonica
players in the world, teams up with Oyster Band guitarist Alan Prosser
and a couple of special guests in a night of driving blues.
Equally at ease on both the earthy Blues Harp as well as the
sophisticated Chromatic Harmonica, Brendan employs his own custom tunings
to breathe fresh life into an often typecast instrument - especially in
his original compositions, which feature on several of the 12
instrumental CDs he has released to date. These cover a diverse range of
styles reflecting Brendan's eclectic tastes, everything from down-home
Blues to Bulgarian folk music, Baroque, Country, Japanese and Irish
traditional music, MOR, Rock and Jazz. He has recorded with pop artists
Sting, Desree, Van Morrison, Mel C, Paul Young and Shirley Bassey,
classical guitarist John Williams, flautist James Galway, and Irish
singer Mary Black, amongst others. He has twice toured as guest soloist
in Japan, China and Russia (including two shows in the Kremlin) with the
legendary Paul Mauriat Orchestra, played the Royal Festival Hall as
soloist under Carl Davis, and played with Sting's band in several TV
appearances. From 1996 to 1999 he toured Europe and Australasia as member
and soloist with the band in the Riverdance Show.
Guitarist Alan Prosser really is the same guy who power riffs
Oysterband– but Alan is a musician with many styles, and amazingly
thoughtful guitar playing. One of those guys who make playing guitar look
easy, until you try and replicate what he does.
Brendan and Alan will be joined on some numbers by Al Clarke and Pete
Gazey. Don’t miss this event– watch and admire!
Tickets cost £5 and can be booked on 01843 860246. The bar and bistro
will be open.
