Hello
What a fun week that was. I've just got back home after being on the road with Fairport for the first week of their Spring Tour. Basically what happens is they travel around the country, trying to tie in avoiding traffic jams with 'somewhere nice for lunch', then arrive at a fab venue and make hundreds of people smile for a few hours by singing at them. Then they pack up, load up and head to a reasonably priced travel hotel for sleep and sometimes Pot Noodle....and repeat! I take my laptop and spend every spare moment emailing, spreadsheeting and promoting, unless the road is very twisty-turny. We've been to some wonderful places, and some not so wonderful places. Got lost in the Maze at Trentham Gardens, got lost in IKEA and been fed like Kings! I've discovered that the success of a gig is at least 80% down to the quality of the rider. One lovely venue manager's assistant made us two Shepherd's pies (one vegan) and five different types of homemade cake and biscuits! Trouble is we'd all eaten a huge curry for late lunch and on arrival were full to bursting. It was that Vicar of Dibley moment! So not to seem ungrateful, much cake was smuggled into the van and became breakfast for the next few days!
Anyway what relevance is this you ask? Well you'll be pleased to hear that the Spring Tour set is very good indeed and getting better with each night's practise. By the time Fairport folk-rock up in Sandwich next Sunday it/they will be at their peak! The set has had a good shake-up and as ever contains some beautiful old favourites such as Rosemary's Sister and Ric's lovely tune The Rosehip, a chance for a gorgeous fiddle duet from Ric and Chris. Two other notable inclusions are The Banks of Sweet Primroses, and a new Chris Leslie composition from 50/50_at_50 Step by Step. There are other surprises too, but I'll leave you to find out for yourselves, and you can - next Sunday at St Mary's in Sandwich. Full details and booking links here....

I came home in order to prepare for the busy week ahead because we also have country-rock legend Albert Lee coming on Friday for his first visit to the Gulbenkian. Thank you so much those who have bought a ticket to see Albert, the gig is virtually sold out. There may be one or two singles left if you're quick.

Like I said, I've been working very hard to get the Autumn Programme ship- shape and available to book. With the exception of one very special date that I am still awaiting the go-ahead to announce, the whole season is updated on the Folk in the Barn website. The Gulbenkian have been sent all the necessary information so booking will be available just as soon as they are able to process it, which should be any day now. The special event still to be announced will be on Monday 12th November at the Gulbenkian so please make a note in your diaries. This is a specially commissioned show about which discussions and planning have been taking place for the last three years. Involving a large cast of many of the most respected members of the UK Folk scene, the show will tour some of the biggest and best venues in the land. We are extremely honoured to be hosting the rehearsal day and the opening night. Can't say any more just yet, but very soon. You won't want to miss it that's for sure.

Right! I'm off to make supper while listening to Folk in the Barn radio! Are you enjoying it? 7 - 9pm tonight and on listen again here
https://www.channelradio.co.uk/one/shows/folk-in-the-barn/ Do drop Keith a line via facebook or twitter (links on the webpage above) and let him know if you're enjoying the music, what you think of the concerts and who you'd like to hear him play.

I've added the complete gig list at the bottom of this email. You can read about the artists and have a look at video clips on the Gig Diary page of www.folkinthebarn.co.uk and find the links to book tickets. Do come and find us on facebook too and let us know if you enjoy the gigs. If anyone that went to FiBFEST would like to win a couple of free tickets to a Folk in the Barn gig, send me a review and I'll pick the best for a prize.
See many of you this weekend at either Albert or Fairport!

Cheerio
