Message from Musically Monstrous:

Wednesday 7th February 2018

Bluegrass instrumentation meets sharp pop aesthetics on the new album by Colorado's the Railsplitters, as you can hear on the tune 'You.'"  - Brice Ezell, Pop Matters
"It's easy to see why this band have gotten so much attention, and this impressive sophomore album is an indication that they've got staying power, too." - Kristin Cavoukian, exclaim.ca
"A musically hip, new acoustic, lyrical, and catchy band that has a new fan." - Frank Solivan, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen
"The Railsplitters are one of the most exciting bands to come on the scene in a long time. The complexity of their arrangements, the beauty of their vocals, and excitement in their performance should put them right in the center of your radar. Catch the Railsplitters, you'll dig 'em!" - Stephen Mougin, Sam Bush Band
"The Railsplitters embody two of my favorite musical elements: high quality musicianship and great original songs. They use both to make them, without a doubt, one of the best bluegrass bands to emerge in the last few years." - Andy Hall, The Infamous Stringdusters
"The Railsplitters are building their own links with listeners, continuing to push traditional bluegrass boundaries while staying true to the genre's roots-one song, one note, one memorable riff, and one heartfelt harmony at a time." - David MacPherson, No Depression Magazine (print edition)
"That high, lonesome sound has rarely sounded better." - Jeff Burger, No Depression
"What do you do when a group has such an original sound that it's truly difficult to find a valid point of comparison? In the case of The Railsplitters, you praise them to the skies, because this young quintet from Colorado has developed a sound that manages to be both startlingly original and very exciting to listen to." - HK, Bluegrass Today
"An outstanding debut from this young Colorado band, winners of the 2013 Rockygrass Band competition. Great vocals and instrumentation, strong songwriting and some creative covers." -Front Porch Bluegrass Show
"The Railsplitters are talented, with well-written songs and spot-on instrumentation. This album is a nice addition to the ever-growing progressive bluegrass field." - John Goad, Bluegrass Today
"This is an amazing album! Newgrass and conventional bluegrass combine to make this the best new project I've heard all year. It's all very accessible and pleasant for the ears. Everyone needs to hear The Railsplitters!" - Dan and Audrey, CKWR

"The band's urbanity and sophistication are what impress, sufficient to cause the listener to forget initial expectations of rustic notes." - Jerome Clark, Rambles.net

Message from Paul Bennett:

Bigfoot Concert in East Sussex

Lewes Con Club, 139 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1XS,   Thursday 15th Feb 7.30 for 8pm

Tickets ?12 - Info: cajunbarn_at_outlook_dot_com  Tel: 01892 533493

In 2010, Bigfoot burst upon the old-time music scene, which is to say, they formed as a band, won the traditional band contest at Clifftop, and caused people to look up and say, "Wow, they're really good." (Okay, so old-time musicians aren't all masters of rhetorical effusion.) Of course, individually, these musicians had already shown themselves for years to be talented, accomplished, and fun to accept a free beer from.

The band consists of Rhys Jones (fiddle), Cleek Schrey (fiddle), John Herrmann (banjo), Susie Goehring (guitar), and Meredith McIntosh (bass).Their combination of two fiddles, guitar, banjo and bass is the best old-time string band sound, especially for dancing. The vocals are spot on, beautiful harmonies, . These folks give an equally wonderful and authentic old-time flavour to the songs they perform

We are immensely lucky to have Bigfoot do a show for us, it's going to be one of those wonderful evenings memorable evenings, highly recommended.

Need to reserve seats or a table? No problem when you get your tickets in advance. Send a cheque made to ?The Cajunbarn' to 12 Rusthall Park, Tunbridge Wells, TN4 8NP. Tickets will be held on the door for you or enclose a SAE and they'll be with you by return of post.

Message from London Sacred Harp:

Sacred Harp Anthems Workshop - Sunday Afternoon 18th Feb  - St Mary's Primrose Hill

Sheila and Edwin Macadam have agreed to host this workshop. It'll be a chance to sing through the SHAPES of anthems and sort out any glitches. There will also be time to tackle a few other songs that might be challenging for various reasons.  The workshop starts at 2pm but we'll have access from 1pm to mill about, chat and if you like you can bring in your own lunch.  The workshop itelf will finish around 5 but there's no need to vacate the church so we can hang out and sing relaxing stuff afterwards if people want to.  Of course there will be tea breaks later in the afternoon so please bring delicious edibles to share.

Please bring your red Sacred Harp, Denson 1991 as there will not be many loaners at this venue.

St Mary's Church,  Elsworthy Road, London NW3 3DJ , Nearest underground stations: Swiss Cottage (Jubilee Line) or Chalk Farm (Northern Line). For alternative routes, use the TfL plan a journey page.

Information relating to dates, times and locations of all singings can be found on the website:
