Sidmouth FolkWeek
Let's Get This Party
Started!
With only days to go, we're in the
mood for some serious festive fun at Sidmouth FolkWeek (3rd - 10th August)!
Getting the party started, we have two
great pre-festival specials at The Ham Marquee. The sultry trad jazz sounds of New Orleans
fill the air on Thursday 2nd August at 8pm as The Big Chris Barber Band come marching in!
On Friday 3rd at 3pm, we are jumping on the
emotional rollercoaster that is War
Horse - The Concert with former Children's Laureate and internationally renowned
Devon-based author Michael
Morpurgo
reading from his moving World War 1 story with songs from Derbyshire heroes John Tams & Barry Coope.
The first Friday continues to provide
thrills with Show
of Hands in concert
(NB no more advance tickets available online for this show but some tickets
available on the door!) and the amazing Bhangra fusionists Kissmet up at the Bulverton.
And that's just for starters?
Special treats throughout the week
abound. On Monday 6th at 8pm Norma
Waterson,
the first lady of British folk, returns to performing after several years
absence, having recovered from a serious illness. We are delighted that she
joins us to sing alongside her rather talented daughter Eliza Carthy and The
Gift Band.
On Thursday 9th at 8pm, the magical combination of June Tabor & Oysterband hits the stage, bringing us some of
the material from multi-award winning CD Ragged Kingdom.
The week continues in this vein, with
hundred of events catering for all possible tastes - from major-league concerts
to intimate shows, from high-stepping ceilidhs to social dance, workshops to
displays, In
The Tradition to fRoots Presents A Cellar Full Of
Folkadelia, children's
festival to Shooting Roots? big scale, small scale, and everything in between.
And all with that unique Sidmouth FolkWeek atmosphere that keeps us smiling all
week.
