......The Big Session
2012.....Choose the Oysterband set!......BBC Folk Awards.....Oysterband phone
app......2 upcoming shows......vinyl Ragged Kingdom......
Best
wishes for 2012, everyone - better late than never!
And so the time comes to turn our attention to..........THE BIG SESSION
FESTIVAL 2012. We know weıre taking a gamble in moving the site to a
greenfield space, but we didnıt have much choice in the matter and we hope
youıll support us to do it - Catton Hall really is a special place,
and we were mightily pleased to find it.
Itıs in the nature of The Big Session that at least one-third of the names on
the bill will probably be quite unknown to you. But thatıs the charm of the
experience - we can guarantee youıll come away raving about
somebody or something you hadnıt anticipated at all.
Go to http://www.bigsessionfestival.com
for the bill, biographies of the artists, and all the info youıll need to enjoy
and take part.
And for a live commentaryı on the build-up to the festival, http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Big-Session-Festival/172106076184487
Itıs
going to be a cracker. And at £87 (+ booking fee) for a full weekend ticket
(early-bird rate until March 31st) we feel itıs pretty good value too.

Pick
Oysterband's Friday night set for the festival
In
our first set (the one without June Tabor) weıll play what you vote for.
John says: ³This is the band's big opening performance of the weekend and
should feature all the live favourites and maybe one or two surprises. Remember
it needs all the ingredients for a live performance: a strong opening, slower
songs for contrast and a big finish. I know what I would put in, but
this is your list. Pick up to 20 songs and I'll do my best to turn them
into the perfect live set .²
Entries
should only include songs that have been released previously on Oysterband
albums Ê no campaigns for Stairway to Heaven, thank you! And this is an
Oysterband-only set, so donıt include songs which would require June or any
other singer.
Please
post your entries either on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oysterband/124838504248510
or
on the Big Session page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Big-Session-Festival/172106076184487
Facebook-refuseniks
can email their lists to bigsessionsetlistvote_at_gmail_dot_com
Deadline: 1st May 2012. Get busy!

Weıre
revving up for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, to be broadcast live from
The Lowry, Salford, on Wed 8th February, starting around 19:15 UK time. We have
3 nominations, for Best Group, Best Album and Best Traditional Track (³Bonny
Bunch Of Roses²). June also has a richly deserved separate nomination for Folk
Singer Of The Year.
Oo-er!
Wish us luck..... (Now do we put a hex on it by preparing acceptance speeches,
or do we risk looking like startled idiots in the event we win something? Hmmmm.)

We
now have an Oysterband phone app. Itıs free from the appropriate App
Stores in iPhone and Android versions and though itıs not quite as versatile as
the famous Widget itıs a cute way of keeping up with new gigs and news
headlines from Oysterworld. Many thanks to ReverbNation, who developed both
devices. An iPad version is on its way too, weıre told - no
definite ETA yet, but weıll keep you posted.
Fan:
OMG - Oyb in the 21st century .....speechless :)

(If
youıd prefer the Widget, i.e. the computer-use version, it can be downloaded
from our homepage at http://www.oysterband.co.uk)
