Deal Maritime Folk Festival 15-18 Sept

Press Release

Benefit showcase at Astor to support the Folk Festival

The great Bayou Seco are returning to the Astor in a benefit for Deal Maritime Folk Festival on Friday the 27th May

Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie, AKA Bayou Seco have spent a lifetime soaking up the traditional music of Louisiana, New Mexico and Arizona. Using a simple line up of fiddle, accordion, banjo and guitar they take their audience on a musical odyssey through the American southwest, performing and reinvigorating long forgotten songs and dances with wit, warmth and style. Their love-affair with the folk traditions of the southwest has already lasted thirty years, and it’s still going strong. Deal is store for real hoe-down treat on the 27th May.

Ray Fielder, one of the festival organisers said “Thanks to great support from the Astor and local promoters we are hoping to stage a number of ‘showcase’ events over the next few months to help fund this year’s festival. The September festival is looking good with a line up that includes a rich mix of world music, traditional and new folk. Already confirmed are : Kimber’s Men, Nuru Kane, Martha Tilson, Brendan Power & Billy Ebeling, Alan Prosser, Nick Wyke and Rebecca Driscoll, Happy Trails & Kay Anderson as well all the local favourites, pub singarounds and the mass morris dance.”

On Saturday 21st May the festival is staging the second of its mini-fest busking session at the town hall undercroft between 9am to 2pm to raise money for the festival. A long list of local bands are supporting including Ramblin Boys, Driftwood, Loose Change Theory, Ravenhill, Bill Howeth & Mac Mckean, Mike Broomfield and Steve Carey.

Tickets are available at the Astor or Soundhouse - £10 in advance or £12 on the door and students £7. Full details at www.theastor.org
