fiddle workshop Sat 19 Mar
Let's Try English Folk Fiddle
Saturday 19th March 3pm - 5pm
The Art House, 178 Above
Bar Street, Southampton SO14 7DW
A group for anyone who plays the
fiddle - if you've just started or have been playing for years, or maybe you
used to play but haven't got around to it for a while.
Working with simple, straightforward
tunes, we'll look at techniques to get beyond just "playing the
notes" and bring the music alive. We'll also listen to how other people do
it, and have a look through some of England's vast storehouse of folk tunes.
And, of course,... just have fun playing together.
Sessions are led by Cath Watkins who
has over 20 years' experience playing with bands, currently playing with local
folk band Jigfoot and co-ordinating a regular pub folk session.
Whether you want to improve your
playing, explore the English folk repertoire or just enjoy the pleasure and
excitement that comes from making music with other people, you'll be welcome at
this group.
The cost for this session is £3
