WHAT'S ON April 2011
EFDSS EVENTS

Thursday 7th April
Shore to Shore
Presented by the EFDSS and Wren Music
In 1929 and 1930 Maud Karpeles, one of the founders of the English Folk Dance Society, travelled to Newfoundland to collect songs and research the links between the English and Newfoundland traditions, publishing ‘Folk Songs from Newfoundland’ in 1934. In this centenary year of the EFDS we present Shore to Shore, a concert that re-visits those historic links and charts the development of folk song on both sides of the Atlantic from the early 1600s to the present day. Performed by renowned musicians from Devon and Newfoundland including Jim Paynes and Fergus O’Byrne from Newfoundland and Paul Wilson and Marilyn Tucker from Devon. Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and the Foyle Foundation.

Doors 7pm, Concert 7.30pm, tickets £14 advance, £17 on the door, available from EFDSS
