26th and 27th March 2011 - Frittenden Old Fashioned Night

Tunes, songs and stepdancing from old friends and special guests from lunchtime
on Saturday 26th March. The focus will be on traditional and old-fashioned
entertainment, and events will include a tunes session (with a few songs) at 12
noon at the village’s Bell & Jorrocks pub, followed by workshops on
stepdancing and social dancing, an atmospheric and varied old fashioned evening
of entertainment and dancing, and finally a regular Frittenden Session on the Sunday
evening.
Led by Rosie Davis, the dances at the hall on Saturday night will include some
real old favourites, including the St Bernard’s Waltz and the Palais Glide,
which will no doubt provide nostalgia for older people and hopefully spark
serious curiosity among younger folks.
Guests invited so far include Will Duke, and Annie Dearman and Steve Harrison –
and there will be more to come, including some established Frittenden
favourites. And of course there’s the committee, Kerry Fletcher, Rosie Davis,
and Julie and Gavin Atkin.

Informal music and song sessions at the Bell & Jorrocks, Frittenden, on the
last Sunday of the month. We enjoy old-fashioned songs, traditional songs,
tunes, step dancing and stories, just as people used to before television and
computers took over. Naturally, the emphasis is on a varied and entertaining
evening. All are welcome and entrance is free.
We start at 8pm and continue until it’s time for Nellie Dean.

traditional music classes

Traditional music classes at the Gun & Spitroast, Horsmonden, Kent. Learn
to play traditional tunes for music sessions and dancing in the company of
other beginners. Play slowly and practice whatever’s causing difficulty for
you.
Join multi-instrumentalist Gavin Atkin at the Gun & Spitroast pub at
Horsmonden, Kent (TN12 8HT) on the SECOND and FOURTH Wednesdays of each month
from now until the summer, starting at 8pm. We’ll have a class for an hour and
a half, followed by whatever playing people feel like, or even just chatting.
Admission is free. Typical instruments might be melodeon, fiddle, concertina,
mandolin, whistle or banjo, but we’ll be just as happy if you pitch up with a
triangle, a saxophone or a piano. Reading music isn’t necessary, though it
definitely helps!
December classes are on the 8th and the 22nd December.
