Subject: London Fiddle Convention
The next (and 19th!) London Fiddle Convention will be held on Sunday 20th February. As usual it will be at Cecil Sharp House in Regents Park.
The day kicks off at 1.00 pm, with a choice of workshops given by Pete Cooper, Bob Winquist and myself (Chris Haigh) There are two workshop periods; from 1-2.20, and 4-5.20pm, so you can choose two different tutors of you want. In between the two there will be a short tutor’s concert where the workshop leaders demonstrate what they’ve been doing to the whole group.
I will be promoting my new book “Exploring Jazz Violin” and will be giving a workshop on “Hot licks for jazz violin- introducing simple, usable licks from Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli, Stuff Smith and Jean Luc Ponty”
As usual there will be a fiddle contest, open to all comers, though you need to book a place in advance. Prizes will be provided by Hobgoblin Music, and the winner will also be offered the opportunity to play in the evening concert. There will also be a session in the bar, and various stalls from fiddle companies.
Highlight of the day will be the evening concert, from 8.00 pm,, at which a number of fiddlers will perform in a wide variety of styles. There’ll be Bob Winquist playing Bluegrass, Pete Cooper doing who knows what, Karen Ryan playing her wonderful Irish fiddle, myself doing jazz, and several others to be confirmed. We’re also delighted to have for the first time Rana Shieh, who will play the Iranian Kamenche.
Full details can be found at www.londonfiddleconvention.org.uk
It's always a really enjoyable event; the most important date in every London fiddler's calendar; a chance to meet friends, learn new tunes, see some amazing playing, buy some fiddle stuff. People come from all over the South East to be there- you'll rarely meet so many fiddlers in one place!
I hope to see you there
PS;If you would rather not receive future emails from me, please let me know and I’ll take you off the list.
