The Hamsters - Guitar Heroes! (medium colour).jpg

Guitar, bass and drums trio The Hamsters bring some rock’n’roll to The Gulbenkian on Saturday 25 September at 7.45pm.

Although a band in their own right - playing Rock, Blues and Americana - they've also long widely been regarded as the UK's leading interpreters of Jimi Hendrix's music. The Hamsters will be performing a show of Hendrix’s songs to commemorate his passing 40 years ago in September 1970. The band will 'support' themselves by first playing a set of their own brand of music, then return for a full Jimi show!

Voted the UK’s best blues-rock band by the readers of Blueprint magazine and having performed more than 3,750 concerts including a series of open-air shows in the summer of 2004 as special Guests to Status Quo, The Hamsters are established as one of the UK's premier live band attraction. Members have performed with artists such as Eric Clapton, Alison Moyet, Doctor Feelgood, Walter Trout and the late, great gentleman of British Blues, Alexis Korner.

The Hamsters have also been voted one of the UK's best unsigned bands by Kerrang magazine. Even BBC's Top Gear magazine recognises the band as the UK's hardest working, and featured The Hamsters in an article on in-car entertainment.

Originally forming for their own amusement (and taking their name from the Sex Pistols, who once used it as a pseudonym to outwit hostile councils), The Hamsters enjoy the irony of being an aggressive band with a cuddly name. Although serious about what they do, they don't take themselves too seriously, which makes for a brilliant night out!

"They’re fabulous! One of Britain’s very best live bands " Bob Harris, Radio 2

“F****** brilliant” Suzi Quatro
