Fall into Autumn 2010 at the Gulbenkian

Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury

 

Ardal O’Hanlon, Rich Hall, Georgie Fame, Steven Berkoff and The Thick of It’s Chris Addison are just some of the big names who will be appearing at the Gulbenkian Theatre this season. Read on to discover more about what’s on offer in this exciting and diverse season:

 

Get set to be entertained by the musical genius that is cellist Robert Cohen, the musical stars of tomorrow with Marlowe Young Musician of the Year 2010 and then take a trip back in time to the Swing era with The Railway Swing Band. Join the feast of global music with the Maridadi Singers and Drummers, the Albert Hall sell-out Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes and rock out with the UK’s leading interpreters of Jimi Hendrix’s music The Hamsters. Get into the Christmas spirit with The Albion Band’s Christmas show and Richard Durrant’s Christmas Show Recital.

 

The Gulbenkian continues its reputation of bringing you the best comedy the country has to offer as we present Micky Flanagan, comic ventriloquist Paul Zerdin, Julian Clary, Tommy Tiernan, Brendon Burns, Greg Davies and musical satirist Mitch Benn and the Distractions among others. Not forgetting The Funny Side Comedy Club, every last Wednesday of the month whose resident MC Kevin Precious will be performing his own stand up Christmas Special Not Appropriate in December.

 

For our young audience members The Gulbenkian has scoured the country for the best in children’s theatre, including feathery fun Don’t let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, the spellbinding Room on the Broom from Tall Stories, the company who brought us The Gruffalo and Theatre of Widdershins return with Arabian Nights: The Lost Tales of Sheherazade. What’s more, the snowy spectacular Stick Man is back as part of our Christmas Season!

 

Drama is also on the bill with classics such as Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker, Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Hamlet as you have never seen it before in Kupenga Kwa Hamlet and OperaUpClose’s La Bohème is a modern interpretation not to be missed! Additionally, The Gulbenkian welcomes two profound, educational shows from Theatre Unlimited, Defying Hitler and Not About Heroes are an engaging personal human insight into momentous historical events.

 

The Gulbenkian is pleased to welcome back a variety of performances as part of Canterbury Festival 2010. Highlights include Hit Me! The Life and Rhymes of Ian Dury, one man show The Confetti Maker, the brilliant Linda Marlowe in The World’s Wife and the compelling sequel to the much loved novel War Horse, Farm Boy.
