Subject: TWILIGHT FOLK NEWS MAY 2010

Hi people,
Yes, i have been quiet lately! Well, just too much else going on in my life since the last two gigs in march...couple of gigs fell through as well unfortunately, the biggest disapointment was losing the chance to put on an acoustic set by RICHARD SINCLAIR at the club-yes, he of Caravan, Hatfield and the North, Caravan of Dreams, Wilde Flowers fame...another promoter was trying to get him onto the LTF line up, but it just wasnt possible. One to try again in the future! I have plenty of ideas though, and will release any upcoming gig news as soon as it happens..
A great recent gig to mention though, was a couple of weeks ago, at Broadstairs' only independent record shop, The Sound House http://www.myspace.com/sound_house -a really great small store with an amazing choice of stuff at internet beating prices (the new MIDLAKE album at £5.00?!). Anyhow, we travelled over to see three sets by NANCY WALLACE and JASON STEELE of OWL SERVICE fame, and had a great day out for nowt...whereas tonight im paying £25 to see BELLOWHEAD over at Rochester...!

Theres also new OWL SERVICE material out now, check them and other related stuff out at http://www.rifmountain.com/home.html (while your there, go to the Archives section, click on March, and scroll down to "Leigh Folk Festival", where you will find a stunning version of Gwydion Penderwen's Spring Strathspey which has been a fixture of the Owl Service live set for the last year, featuring Naomy singing harmony with Jo Lepine..check it out!)

Our next gig is approaching SELL OUT stage already-people from outside of the UK have bought tickets for this, which is a first for Orange Street, but does go to show what an exciting booking this is...just sold another this week to a German fan! I have seen Justin solo before in a tiny pub in Bodmin, and it was unforgettable, some of the most emotive music you will ever hear...only a handful of tickets are left, Dave in Canterburys indoor market still has a few, but the club has sold out....hope to see you there!
All the best, Jason.

JUSTIN SULLIVAN
As founder member and main songwriter with the legendary underground cult rock band NEW MODEL ARMY, Justin Sullivan has written and recorded more than 200 songs. Across ten studio albums, the band have explored a wide range of musical ideas and influences while still remaining true to their roots in the thrilling and the uncompromising. Working outside the mainstream music industry, the band have amassed a fanatically dedicated world-wide following to whom the songs, the passionate live performances, the poetic lyrics and the ideas contained within them, are as important, if not more so, than the group themselves. Since 1985, Justin has been the only original member of an ever-evolving line-up which has seen 14 personnel changes in 28 years of continuous writing, recording and touring.
Parallel to the group, Sullivan has always maintained an active solo career giving live performances in all kinds of different situations. In 2003, he released a first solo album, 'Navigating by the Stars', an album of contemplative music far from adrenalin driven rush of the full band, with musical contributions from Danny Thompson and Mark Feltham as well as from members of NMA. The release co-incided with a cargo-ship voyage across the Atlantic and was followed by a long tour. In 2006, he wrote a specially-commissioned 'Bradford Soundscape', an album of interviews and music to accompany Bradford University’s presentation of Joolz Denby’s photographic installation piece 'Bradford - True North’ . It is a moving and powerfully emotive tribute to the city that has been his home for 32 years and the inspiration for so many of his songs. It is hoped that this CD will soon be distributed into every home in the area. Also in 2006 he was commissioned by the Illuminate Festival to write a soundtrack for ‘Wuthering Heights‘ featuring readings from that novel set to club-based music.
