Scots Singer of the Year 2008/9 Emily Smith has firmly established herself as a leading light in the folk scene. Since winning the 2002 BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award, she has now released four critically acclaimed albums, toured extensively with her band on the international folk circuit and is recognised not only as one of Scotland’s finest interpreters of traditional song but also as a talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Her songwriting has not gone without recognition – She became the first ever winner from Scotland in the USA Songwriting Competition in 2005 after winning the folk section with her song ‘Edward of Morton’, another of her songs ‘Always a Smile,’ about the life of her Polish grandmother, was short listed in the final ten.

Alongside her solo career Smith has written, recorded and toured with artists from the folk scene and beyond including Eddi Reader, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Karine Polwart, John McCusker, David Scott and Phil Cunningham. She also appeared on the most recent series of BBC’s Transatlantic Sessions (Series 4).

In this short Spring tour, Emily will be performing material from her current  release 'Adoon Winding Nith' (featuring Jamie McClennan) - a collection of lesser known songs by Robert Burns. She will also perform songs from her forthcoming new solo album scheduled for release in the Autumn.

“As far as I’m concerned she can walk on water” Mike Harding, Radio 2

“Smith could become to Scottish folk what Joni Mitchell is to its Californian cousin” Q Magazine

“Smith deserves to become yet another new folk celebrity” The Guardian

Gretchen Peters - ‘Circus Girl - Without A Net Tour 2010’

Hailed by many as one of Nashville's best contemporary songwriters, Gretchen Peters' intelligent and introspective songs have been covered by pop, country, blues and folk artists all over the world. She possesses a rare ability to drive a strong point, yet capture it eloquently in song. That ability has won Peters two Grammy nominations and sold her millions of records worldwide.

The title track of her 1996 debut album, The Secret of Life, was recorded by Faith Hill in 1999, for whom it was a Top 5 country hit.  Her track ‘When You Are Old’ has become a regular on BBC Radio 2’s playlist (Terry Wogan is a big fan!).

In celebration of the release of "Circus Girl: The Best Of Gretchen Peters", Peters will be embarking on her first- ever ‘all request’ tour in 2010. This intimate show will encompass and highlight her entire body of work and feature the stories behind the songs, personal anecdotes and glimpses behind the scenes of her 20+ year career. The set list is composed entirely of requests by fans via email, Twitter, Facebook and Peters' website).

Twice-nominated for a prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize, Eliza Carthy is also the winner of more than 7 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and a nominee in 3 categories for the 2009 awards (Best Singer, Best Album and Best Orginal Track). She has been a regular guest-presenter on the BBC Radio 2 Mark Radcliffe Show and has made several appearances on BBC TV’s Later with Jools. In addition, she has presented her own four part series on the history of English Folk on BBC Radio 2 and was recently the subject of the ITV documentary, Heaven & Earth.  She also featured prominently in the acclaimed BBC Four Folk Britannia season.

A truly inventive and innovative singer and fiddle-player, Carthy is a gifted musical conceptualist confirming her position as, arguably, the most impressive and engaging performer of a generation.

Eliza will be accompanied by Willie Molleson on drums, Emma Smith on double bass and  Phil Alexander on keyboards / piano accordion.
