The club started in
1990 to cheer up people in the 1st recession and is now one of
the longest running comedy clubs in the country, firmly established on the
comedy circuit as being at the cutting edge of Stand Up Comedy in Kent.
Admission is still free. Many well known
comedians on the circuit started their careers at the club. The
first act was a musical comedy duo featuring a talented Bill Bailey.
Some of the acts that have appeared in the past are Jo Brand, Graham Norton, Alistair McGowan, Alan Davis, Jimmy Carr, Catherine Tate, Sean Lock, Ardal O'Hanlon (Father Ted), Dylan Moran, Jeff Green, Alistair McGowan, Ed Byrnes, Ian Cognito, Lucy Porter, Boothby Graffoe, Adam Bloom, The Bastard Son of Tommy Cooper, Wilty, Mark Lamarr, Charlie Chuck (Uncle Peter) Mandy Knight and Dominic Holland to name but a few. Peter and Carol Henn
who run the Club said "The club prides itself on featuring new up and coming acts. We get tremendous satisfaction at seeing their careers escalate. A few act have found the set-up quite daunting as we are only a very small pub. It was likened to Kathy Bates house in Misery, but none the less they enjoyed the evening and the appreciation of the audience. Most came back a second or third time. Even the Independent Newspaper gave us a mention for the comedians to be afraid, very afraid. This we took as a compliment rather than never making the press at all." In April 2010 Pete and
Carol are also celebrating 25 years in the pub and also have put on live
music all that time.
Monday the 19th April
features the fantastic Hullabaloo again.
admission is free and the show starts at 9pm. The Walnut Tree, 234 Tonbridge Road (opposite the Maidstone and Mid-Kent College) Maidstone, Kent. ME16 8SR Exit Junction 5 on the M20 Tel: 01622 727260 peteandcarolwalnutpub_at_live_dot_co_dot_uk Red Admiral
