Music to your ears, since 1999!

Is it fester' season yet? Yep- there's one starting right now just down the road from us here at Shakori Hills, and probably one near you, too. STEP AWAY from your computer, find the door to outside, get in the car and drive til you hear the bluegrass. Wait... before you go, check out our festival listings: You can search by town, state, etc. to find out where the pickin' is happening- and HEY if you are a festival producer and not listed, please add your info. (Our list says there are ONLY 31 fests in NC this summer- there must be more'n that!!!) Post your festival, we'll help spread the word. (Our own CEO and head bottlewasher Chris Frank will be heading west himself in July, to the Vancouver Island Musicfest, with the Red Clay Ramblers.)

What else? Featured song for this issue is from a Weaverville NC duo, the Twilite Broadcasters, with a funky track, Southern Moon; the boys wear nice hats and ties, and look sharp belting out harmony vocals ala the more famous but not-actually-a-group Soggy Mountain Boys. Free download, and you can subscribe to the RSS feed for automatic delivery of future tracks.

Our featured artist is really more of a collective, an cool UK outfit, Peppermill- have a listen to this, very Folk 2.0 - again, free download, subscription to the RSS. The song is about a group of gnomes who go foraging through the wintry forest looking for the author of spring. They find her underneath a pile of quilts. Really.

Happy Earth Day, Humans! Here's another place that folk musicians have been ahead of the curve, singing about the environment way before the earth needed a special day. Check out Kim Ruehl's list of ten good ones on About.com. From Woody Guthrie to Ani DiFranco, folkies have long been close to the planet, maybe it's all the driving...

Tune it up the old fashioned way: have you tried our online guitar tuner? It really works, but you do need to train your ear to work it, just like in the old days. Here's how it works:You just click on the note and LISTEN, then pluck your guitar string and turn the (appropriate) tuning peg until it sounds the same pitch! You can do it in the dark, and it's good practice! (If you are too hip for this, try the incredible Peterson strobe tuner app for your iPhone or iPod Touch- wow!)

Hey- One more thing: Consider Supporting This Nonprofit. Our supporting members enjoy access to our extensive "Member MP3" library, plus we send you 100 songs on a great MP3/CD to help you get acquainted with our curated roster. Tax-deductible memberships start at just $30 for a full year of membership benefits. Want an efolkMusic T-shirt or ball cap? It's SO easy, click here.

Browse the "Listen & Download" areas of the site, listen to some full length previews (we don't believe in previews that fade out just as it starts to get good...), you'll quickly see the benefits of a "filtered" selection of exceptional music.

PS We're Facebookin', y'uns! OK, OK we give up- some of you are hanging out at Facebook, more than at efolkMusic!! We know, your pals are all there - sup, I'm walking the dog, ROFL, thought you'd want to know...So we're hangin' out there, too, ya can't say we're not "with it." . C'mon by, be a fan, look at the pictures, LOL, etc., we'll let you know if there's anything important happening. And we promise, no Twitter, ever...become an efolkMusic fan on Facebook ..
