Launched
in 2006, the ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO is the
first and only national conference dedicated to
songwriting and composing. Selling out in its
inaugural year, the EXPO immediately provided a
unique opportunity for songwriters, composers,
publishers, producers - and those in the industry
that support them - to come together in an
unprecedented way to share their knowledge and
expertise. In its short history, the innovative
programming offered to attendees has grown to
include celebrity Q&A's, master classes,
songwriting and composing workshops, publisher and
business panels, One-on-One sessions, DIY career
building workshops, showcases and performances,
song feedback panels, state-of-the-art technology
demos as well as leading music industry
exhibitors.
THIS WEEK'S FEATURED ARTISTS:
Zach Maxwell – New
York, NY Genres: Rock,
Soul, Singer-Songwriter, Roots, Jam http://www.arielpublicity.net/clients/2704
Like the rest of life, music shouldn’t make you
feel like you’re just punching the clock or
spinning your wheels. It should be a journey. One
in which the artist weaves together his or her
experiences into impeccably performed songs that
not only appeal to the ear with strong hooks and
addictive melodies, but also resonate deeply on an
emotional level. Tunes that have the power to
directly move the listener to their very core, and
perhaps even serve as reassuring beacons during
difficult times. Such a skill is, of course, a
rare gift for any artist, and one that takes most
of them decades to attain, if at all. And yet it’s
a skill that Zach Maxwell, still only in his mid
twenties, already has—in abundance.
THIS WEEK'S FEATURED VIDEO
"Julien" by Nadia
Kazmi Genre:
SingerSongwriter, Pop, Rock, Soul,
AltRock http://arielpublicity.net/clients/2733
Nadia is a Canadian born singer/songwriter with
a penchant for metaphoric lyrics and eclectic
musical influences. Her influences of rock, soul
and folk are evident on her debut album Arrival
from the Beatles-esque Julian to the soulful pop
of Arrival and the bluesy depth of the Blues
Always Bleed Red. Her live show is a ruckus
energetic version of the album.

Featured Podcast: Ourobouros
Podcast http://ourobouros.co.uk/
Good music is infinite. An Ourobouros is an
ancient Greek symbol of a snake biting its own
tail that symbolises infinity. The idea is that
there is infinite good music out there that people
should hear and the podcast intend is all about
playing some of that
music.

soft rock favorites, groovy pop oldies, love
classics, and Motown super-hits. This refreshing

Feature Interview: Joel
Michalec of the Behind The Mike Show
The Radio Talk Show About...Whatever! The WBTM
Internet Radio Network is a collective of ideas
that formed to bring original talk programming to
the Internet. The network began as a single talk
show podcast, Behind The Mike, and grew to the
current setup of three shows and a network of
quality affiliates. WBTM also airs the best
selections of the 70s and 80s and is PROUD to air
the very best independent music from around the
globe.
http://www.BehindTheMike.info
Q) Tell us a little bit about your
site. What inspired you to start
it?
A) The Behind The Mike Show
was born out of the love I had for talk radio and
old time radio programs; mixed with 23 years as a
professional mobile Disc Jockey. I formed the show
in 2006 and in 2008 we launched the WBTM Radio
Network which features 80s pop and independent
music. Q) Why do you
believe new media resources (i.e. blogs, podcasts,
internet radio stations) have become so popular?
How have they been beneficial to artists? How have
they been detrimental?
A) I think that blogs have
become popular because of the downsizing in
conventional news media print. As this media folds
more, you will see more blogging happening. I also
feel that it has broken a taboo. Growing up,
starts were just that, stars. We watched them and
wanted to be them but you only ever saw them in
movies, on TV or talk shows. Many of them blog
now. Stars, musicians, politicians; everyone who
seemed to be shielded by the curtain is now in the
open. Internet radio stations have become popular
because of their accessibility worldwide and the
indie musicians, I feel, have a friend in these
stations…at least at mine they
do. Q) Media 2.0 has
changed the way artists communicate with fans.
Where do you envision online communication going
next? Any thoughts on what Media “3.0â€ð will look
like?
A) I cannot imagine with the
depth of technology now and “Media 2.0â€ð how it can
be improved upon. Right now artists can
communicate in almost every imagineable medium
(Facebook, Twitter, etc) from computer to cell
phone. What’s next could be
scary. Q) What does an
artist have to do to get your attention? Are their
specific characteristics that you look
for?
A) A simple email introduction
and a few tracks usually will get our team going.
Our program/station prefers Native American, Folk,
Americana, Country, Melodic Rock, Pop and Soft
Rock. Q) What do you
ultimately hope to accomplish with your
site?
A) Ultimately, I hope to take
my show to more syndicated networks and radio
stations. I like to bring out the best in people
through interviewing them and I get a lot of
positive feedback. I think that what I do should
be in more media outlets. Takers?
