Subject: TWILIGHT FOLK NEWS MARCH 2010-PHILIP HENRY LIVE, and NEW MODEL ARMY ACOUSTIC

Hi people!
Firstly a quick thanks to everyone who turned out in that horrendous weather to see the EMILY PORTMAN TRIO, one of the most beautiful gigs we have hosted yet, and to Naomy and Jo for their captivating support...and for those who came to TREMBLING BELLS on friday. Apologies from both me and the band for the shortened set- both Alex and Lavinia were coming down with colds (on the first night of their tour!), and lavinia especially had nearly lost her voice, so they had to stop before any encores.
Nonetheless, I think you will agree it was a great night, they are a truly original band. Thanks also to Liam from Syd Arthur for his amazing set.

Our next gig in March-this thursday-always a highlight of Broadstairs Folk week....from the bands SCHOOL OF TROBAR, and THE ROOTS UNION,the amazing slide guitar and harmonica virtuoso...

"Definitely one to watch out for"
Verity Sharp - BBC Radio 3 - Late Junction

Phillip is one of a new breed of English slide guitarists. Beginning as a bottleneck blues player Phillip has branched out to incorporate a wide range of musical styles into his playing. He is fast becoming known as one of the countries finest lap slide players, his dazzling technique showcases careful study of such world slide guitar styles as Hindustani slide guitar, bluegrass Dobro and Hawaiian lap steel, deftly combined with a strong grounding in traditional music of the British Ilse's. Phillip is also a fiery harmonica player, heavily influenced by Sonny Terry he has developed a very distinctive and crowd pleasing solo style which rarely fails to get people moving.....
Phillips influences range are many-Jimi Hendrix, Blind Willie Johnson, Son House, Ry Cooder, Jerry Douglas, Debashish Bhattacharya, Martin Simpson, Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson, Davy Graham, John Renbourne, and Bert Janch......
"Phillip Henrys dedication and originality has made him one of the most exciting newcomers to the British acoustic scene, he is probably one of the finest lap players to have recently emerged, wonderfull noises emanate from this humble northerner ! "
Kevin Brown -renowned slide guitarist and songwriter.

Plus support from

JOHN FORRESTER and ANDY WARD-WEBB

John Forrester toured Europe extensively as a singer/songwriter playing Acoustic Guitar & Bouzouki and released 2 albums and an E.P. for German Indie label Twah! Records. After years of solo work he took a break to play bass for New Model Army offshoot band Nozzle and songwriter Robb Johnson. Now reunited with friend & guitarist Andy Ward-Webb, they are playing as a duo for the first time in 12 years. Forrester's intense vocals paired with Ward-Webb's virtuoso guitar playing make for quite an experience. Expect indie guitar attitude, well struck acoustics, and a bouzouki called Hamish - all dished up with passion, energy & humour.

"some of the most stunningly articulate songs you'll hear anywhere from anyone... an acoustic backdrop brimming with passion, ideas &
invention..." - Rock n Reel
"strangely melodic sounds and truly passionate lyrics...Forrester has the rare gift of turning bare, raw emotion into commercial music" -
