What can we say about Anas Mitchell (who played her first ever UK gig for Acoustic Sussex in 2005 and now makes her 4th welcome return)?  Well, at a time when the music industry seems to be using flash and dazzle campaigns to distract us from the dubious quality of some the acts they present, Anas is, by contrast, someone who grew up on a sheep farm and developed a music form all of her own: poetic, sometimes challenging, and always enchanting.

Listening to this young singer/songwriter perform her meticulously written songs, fervently singing them in a distinctive, almost childlike voice, youd think it was her life mission to rouse the hearts and minds of her listeners with an acoustic guitar. Shes spent time in Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, bringing a worldly depth to her writing, which she presents to her audience with a graceful presence of spirit.

Whilst Anas isnt new to Acoustic Sussex audiences, this is the first time shes played at the larger Chequer Mead Arts Centre venue, so were hoping for a great turn-out from her ever-increasing fan-base.

2010 will also see the CD release of the unique 'folk-opera' Hadestown that Anas has written and performed in back in her native Vermont. Among others, the recording features Ani DiFranco, Justin Vernon (from Bon Iver) and Greg Brown (you can read the Hadestown press release here.) Expect to hear plenty of samples from the opera in this special UK headlining date.

"Consistently touching and burning with a worldly passion."
Wears the Trousers magazine ('The Brightness' made its Top 50 albums of the decade)

"Not since Bob Dylan's early years has a 23 year old songwriter had such power and meaning. Political and poetic, personal and universal, Anas Mitchell's work is my latest obsession." Jonathan Byrd

A songwriter of startling clarity and depth, equally skilled at turning a melody or lyrical phrase into what you didn't know you needed until you heard it." Acoustic Guitar magazine

> Support for this show is from a truly exciting new artist on the scene, Iain Morrison, whos coming all the way from the Outer Hebrides just to do this show. His exceptional and eclectic Sinking Boats CD was one of our 'best of 2009'. Last week, Iain received a 5 star review in The Scotsman, following a show at Glasgows Royal Concert Hall.

A spellbinding mixture of rock, folk and even classical stylings, by turns heartrending and uplifting, at once timeless and modern" The Scotsman

"An enigmatic and truly original mix of creative elements ..startlingly imaginative, even surreal observations" Hi-Arts

"A remarkable slice of rural folk"  Rock n Reel

"Highly recommended" The List
