February at Cecil Sharp House brings the inaugural Mary Neal Lecture and the start of the Folk Song in England course, as well as the usual selection of great dance events, workshops and more. We also have a couple of exciting concerts coming up - get your tickets early for Martin Simpson and Adrian Edmondson & The Bad Shepherds.
Dancing at Cecil Sharp House

Every month at Cecil Sharp House sees a fantastic array of dance - in February, you can see the Crane River Cajuns at Filé Gumbo on Friday 5th, dance at Ceilidh Club (suitable for all levels) on Friday 12th, Friday 26th or Saturday 27th, join the Society for International Folk Dancing at the Wilf Horrocks Commemoration Dance on Sunday 7th, enjoy Balkan music and dance at Balkanplus on Saturday 13th, dance contras and squares to the music of Fiddlegang with the London Barndance Company on Saturday 13th or join Knees Up Cecil Sharp! for a ceilidh with the Hosepipe Band on Friday 19th.

Or the truly energetic can dance at all of them!

Actor and comedian Adrian Edmondson (The Young Ones, Bottom) leads The Bad Shepherds, playing punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because they really like the noise. They think the songs are better than people remember. They love folk instruments. It works. They do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Specials, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk!

Exhibition: Foggy Dew

At Swiss Cottage Library

Matthew Cowan (EFDSS artist in residence 2009) and EFDSS have been invited to curate an exhibition at Swiss Cottage Library’s respected visual arts gallery. Foggy Dew will display selected images and artefacts from the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library along with contemporary artworks, including some that were featured in the Mumchance and Guise exhibition.

London Gypsy Orchestra: Opa Cupa!

The London Gypsy Orchestra are filling Cecil Sharp House with music and workshops to celebrate the work of Danica Janković. With a special family workshop and concert, workshops in Serbian dance, music and percussion, and a Serbian buffet in the evening with musical accompaniment.
