"The best POGUES tribute band Ive seen!”
Andrew Rankin-THE POGUES

TICKETS £6 in advance/£7 ON THE DOOR.

"What can I say about the fantastic tribute band the Pogue Traders? If you like the Pogues you'll love them. If you know nothing about the Pogues, you'll still love them. This is infectious music played with humour and panache by seven talented musicians.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see the Pogues at the height of their considerable powers in the late 80's, so in the absence of a time-travelling DeLorean, the Pogue Traders will do very nicely thank you. They played every classic song I was hoping to hear (and that's a lot of songs) including a terrific rendition of Fairytale of New York - Well worth missing the midnight train back to Brighton for…”

With support from RELIG ORAN
“Relig Oran mix the sounds of the African Kalimba, driving percussion, fiddle and bouzouki with the traditional music of England, Ireland and Brittany. With innovation and dynamics they give the music a contemporary and exciting twist, while tipping their battered caps to the long journey from the 60’s and 70’s psychedelic rock / acid folk... Yet at the same time Relig Oran keep the spirit, drive and depth of the music. A respect for the tradition is always at the very heart of Relig Oran’s music, and though there are some exciting detours on the journey, the Relig Oran sound is always based on a deep love of traditional European music. Relig Oran also has a website at http:///www.religoran.co.uk with loads more stuff.”

Hope to see you all there for that one, will be great fun....some real highs towards the end of last year, ROBB JOHNSONS "Ghost of Love" mini tour which stopped off at the club (and the album just missing album of the week in the Guardian!), Martin Carthy and the Owl Service which people are still talking about, that beautiful Sharron Kraus gig, Michael Tyack guesting with Beneath The Oak, and everything topped off by a fantastic new years eve bash down in Rye, featuring the Kim Thompsett band and Will Summers from CIRCULUS

Thanks to everyone who has supported the gigs, and to all the musicians who have worked so hard too....mines a pint of Guinness!
Cheers, Jason

OTHER UPCOMING GIGS AT ORANGE STREET-
WEDS 24TH FEBRUARY

EMILY PORTMAN

'From the first moment I heard Emily sing, I knew that she was special. She is beautiful and charming, and with her love of the tradition and her well-chosen songs, she graces the English folk scene.'
Shirley Collins

Emily Portman is a singer, writer and concertina player with a passion for traditional narratives. Best known for her interpretations of English folk ballads, Emily is one of the brightest young stars on the British folk scene, having worked with Waterson:Carthy, Shirley Collins and making regular appearances on BBC Radio 2 and Late Junction on Radio 3.

One time member of harmony trio (and BBC folk-award nominees!) The Devil's Interval, Emily is now a member of Rubus who were featured on fRoots playlist, and she has gained plaudits for her duo with Lauren McCormick (recently appearing at Saddlers Wells, The Roundhouse and The South Bank centre). She was also featured as a soloist on the BBC's latest adaptation of 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles'.

Less well known are her original compositions: these visceral visions of a darker, more brutal Albion, have more in common with PJ Harvey than they do with many on the folk circuit, and are shot through with hints of Alasdair Roberts, Tom Waits and Bjork. Even before their official release Emily’s new songs are selling out venues in the Northeast and swiftly creating a stir beyond the folk scene.

EMILY PORTMAN will be performing with RACHAEL NEWTON, harpist and singer with Folk award nominees The Shee, and LUCY FARRELL, who will soon be touring with The Unthanks.
