Return to Camden Town Festival of Irish Traditional Music, Dance and Song
is pleased to announce that the first of our preview events for the 2010
Festival will take place on Friday 29 January 2010, with a concert at the
London Irish Centre, Presidential Suite, 50 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB,
featuring John and James Carty, together with friends and special guests.

Brothers James and John were born in
London, of Roscommon and Connemara

parents. Their father, multi-instrumentalist John P Carty, was a member of
London's Glenside Ceili Band in the 1960s.

John is one of
Ireland
's finest traditional musicians. He was Irish
television station TG4’s Traditional Musician of the Year in 2003.
A master of the fiddle, banjo, tenor guitar and flute, John has been
performing publicly since the age of 16. Initially based in
London
, he
moved to
Ireland
in his late teens and since then, has played with
musicians of the calibre of Arty McGlynn, Kevin Burke, Jackie Daly, Matt
Molloy, Alec Finn, Brian McGrath and Johnny McDonagh.

James is one of
London
’s great traditional flute players. His solo album,
Upon My Soul, was released at the 2006 Return to Camden Festival. He also
played on John’s fiddle album, At It Again, which was released in 2003 and
Joe Whelan and Liam Farrell's classic recording, They Sailed Away from
Dublin Bay.

Willie Purcell has re-arranged the Set Dance ceili that was to be held on the 9th January but cancelled due to the weather.  

 

The new date is Saturday 20 March 2010 all tickets bought in advance for the 9th January ceili will be valid for this ceili. 

Venue is St Thomas Moore Hall, 116a Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, SE22.

Music by Delga Trad.

 

The ceili is in aid of St Christopher's Hospice SE26, please let others know and encourage them to come along for a good night and support this good cause.
