THIS WEEK'S FEATURED CLIENT

Rhythm Child – Los Angeles, CA
Genre:
Soul, Childrens
http://www.arielpublicity.net/clients/2655

Rhythm Child is not just a band, it’s a movement. Formed in 2003 by husband and wife team Norman and Heather Jones, Rhythm Child’s mission is to encourage children to create soulful music and percussion, while also building their self confidence. “Eat a Bowl of Cherriesâ€ð the group’s latest release, proves that not all children’s music needs to be hyperactive and saccharin sweet. In fact, it can be naturally, genuinely sweet—just like a real life bowl of cherries. Style-wise, Rhythm Child sounds more like Otis Redding than Alvin and the Chipmunks, an innovation that will delight children and parents alike.

Feature Interview: Friday Night Dance Party

www.fridaynightdanceparty.com

Q) Tell us a little bit about your show. What initially inspired you to start it?

A) Friday Night Dance party is a podcast to end the week and feel the beat.  FNDP features disco, funk, soul, r&b, hip hop, house, drum & base, dance, techno, new wave, pop, rap and rock & roll! I started it 4 years ago as an extension of listening to music and dancing around the apartment with my kids here in NYC on Friday night. I've always loved discovering new music and FNDP allows me share that sense of joy and excitment with all my friends and listeners.

Q) Why do you believe new media resources (i.e. blogs, podcasts, internet radio stations) have become so popular? How have they been beneficial to artists? How have they been detrimental?

A) New media has grown because it satisfies basic human nature and can be simplified into two distinct behaviors: talkers and listeners.  It is the talkers that have been given the tools to express themselves and in turn, have created new listeners (this is where old media has failed).  All of this new activity has opened the doors for artists to be heard by new audiences looking to engage with them: comment on their web site, follow them on Twitter, buy their songs, see their shows.  I see nothing detrimental regarding new media and the music industry, on the contrary, not enough new media is being harnessed.

Q) Media 2.0 has changed the way artists communicate with fans. Where do you envision online communication going next? Any thoughts on what Media “3.0â€ð will look like?

A) Successful artists now have to manage content besides their music. Fans want updates, show schedules, pictures, replies etc.  The artist has to be accessible and transparent to succeed with fans.  As far as the future?

The melding of business, social media tools and personal data will generate a level of engagement like never before. Further, it's all going mobile and on demand. I want all of my favorite bands info pushed to me and available via my mobile device. Has anyone built that yet? :)

Q) What does an artist have to do to get your attention? Are there specific characteristics that you look for?

A) The song has to have a beat :)  Melody and hooks are also great ways to grab me. Any artist who friends me on MySpace (yes, MySpace) will get my attention and I will listen to all of their songs and see if any fit for an upcoming FNDP.  Sending along a song intro from the artist or a promo for FNDP also helps grab my attention.  Referencing a past show or a song they heard, lets me know they are a listener and that makes me want to listen to what they are creating as it may be of a similar taste.

Q) What do you ultimately hope to accomplish with your podcast?

A) Primarily, give the artists an opportunity to be heard.  I see my show as a promotional tool for people to experience new music, go out and buy it and also go out and see the bands live.  I'm here to connect the artists with the listeners.
