Subject: Let this Summer last for 'One More Week'

Hi
Haven't we been lucky! Every time I say to someone (from beyond Kent) 'hasn't it been a great summer' they look at me as if I'm mad! I've been driving about the country a bit over the last few weeks and can report that the rest of the country is green and lush - thanks to all the rain! When you get back to Clacketts Lane, which I always think of as the border, suddenly you're in Arizona!
Quite a few of you know where I've been because I keep bumping into you in various fields. I have to tell you about Cropredy first. It was very special for me because as some of you know, I've been ColvinQuarmby's booking agent for the past few years and my greatest thrill was getting them back to Cropredy Festival. They opened on the Friday - the dreaded graveyard spot - and I don't want to boast but the sight of 20 thousand people all smiling and singing and waving to 'One More Week' made my knees wobble, I was so proud of my boys (and gal) Later on they were voted second best act at the festival by the Fairport forum 'Talkawhile'. Second only to the great Richard Thompson. Gerry was so excited when we told him last Saturday at Southsea, he couldn't stop jumping up and down! I still don't think he can actually believe it. Third was Feast of Fiddles, fourth were Fairport themselves, fifth Ade Edmonson and the Bad Shepherds, sixth Dreadzone, seventh Nik Kershaw, eighth Four Square, ninth Ralph McTell and tenth Richard Digance. I'm still buzzing from that - the festival and the result! And it didn't rain! Fantastic festival, many saying it was the best Cropredy ever as well, which makes it even more special. Amazing to see Cat Stevens (Yusuf), and Seth Lakeman and his band also gave a powerful performance. Personally I really enjoyed Steve Winwood's set and John Jorgensen, and was surprised to really enjoy 80's pop star Nik Kershaw, great songs, playing and vocals. Made me feel 20something again. Such a well organised, friendly festival with something for everyone.
Needless to say I've returned to loads of enquiries and leads for CQ, enough to keep me very busy for a while. You can of course see them at the Whitstable Playhouse on 2nd October, half the tickets have gone already so book soon if you want to come along and be ColvinQuarmbied 01227 272042 ( 10 - 12noon) or online www.theplayhousewhitstable.co.uk/
Show of Hands at the Hazlitt Theatre has now SOLD OUT, Its never too late though, ring for returns, there are always some. 01622 758611

CHRIS WHILE AND JULIE MATTHEWS
You can however, still buy tickets for our next concert which is only 11 days away and has over half the tickets left!! Maybe you've been waiting till the hols are over before deciding - I don't know - but I can't believe that we have the best female duo in the Uk coming to Canterbury - for the first time - (don't think that its the same as St Agnes Fountain - its totally totally different) and so far, we're not in a position to give our usual folk in the barn welcome. This is a rare opportunity to see Chris and Julie perform together in the South East, like I said, the St Agnes Fountain performance - while being brilliant in itself, doesn't give the duo a chance to do what they do best and present their own sensitive and heartfelt material as they have done all over the world to great acclaim. We've seen Chris with her own band and with daughter Kellie, but it's with her musical partner Julie Matthews that she is most acclaimed. It's a bit like Show of Hands, each individual highly talented but it's together that the magic is made. Julie Matthews' songwriting has been compared to Richard Thompson and Mary Chapin Carpenter, described by Folk Roots as 'awesomely talented, a dynamic performer and multi-instrumentalist'. Chris as you know, has the voice of an angel as well as been a pretty mean guitar player. The harmonies - well - you can imagine - indescribable... Tickets are £14 or £12 for concessions. The concert is at the Canterbury Cathedral International Study Centre, all details on our website www.folkinthebarn.co.uk plus online booking (for a fee) for more convenience, or usual email booking (free) Trust me - you really won't want to miss this concert, it will be the perfect start to the Autumn season, and give us all a lift now the nights are lengthening.
Lastly
This coming weekend is Faversham Hop Festival
www.faversham.org/pages/event_item.aspx?i_PageID=161128 Sat and Sun 9.30 - 5pm
There is also a concert on 4th Sept at the Arden Theatre, Faversham. £8, part of the Hop Festival - The Prague Castle Orchestra (Dvorak, Smetana, Bach, Czech Folksong) not stuffy really good entertainment like a Victorian music hall (according to Mike) I expect you can find out more on google. Sounds interesting!
Got to go.... hoping to hear back from lots of you very soon with bookings for Chris and Julie, otherwise I'll have to keep on nagging.... :o) No I promise I won't, I get enough of that at home (teenagers!)
See you soon
