Every Thursday 8.pm PROMPT START
July can be a difficult month for attendances in folk clubs, but we managed to finish our season with the real flourish. Two of the last four meetings had capacity crowds with people being turned away and then on our final Open Night we were inundated with performers; we restricted everyone to two items each and managed to fit in 26 performers - and, sadly, there were some that we were not able to fit in.
WE START THE NEW SEASON WITH A BANG WITH AN EVENING WITH THE COPPER FAMILY ON SEPTEMBER 3rd.

Sept 3rd * £6.00 * THE COPPER FAMILY

Jon, Jill and John and some of their children will be on hand as we welcome one of the regular visits from England's leading traditional singing family.

Sept 10th * £6.00 * PETE COE

One of the top names on the scene. A fine singer and multi-instrumentalist. He will even stepdance as he plays!

Sept 17th * £6.00 * PETE SHEPHEARD, TAM SPIERS & ARTHUR WATSON
Three fine performers of Scots traditional song, all with a deep understanding of the genre and all with excellent voices. Accompaniments on melodeon, fiddle and whistle

Sept 24th * £6.00 * MICHAEL MARRA

Scotland's top songwriter is also a very fine singer and accompanies himself beautifully on piano and guitar.

Oct 1st * £6.00 * BEVERLY SMITH & CARL JONES

Old- Timey tunes and songs accompanied by banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle by two top American performers on tour. They were great on their last two visits.

Oct 8th * £5.00 * JEFF WESLEY

Making a very welcome return from Northamptonshire, Jeff Wesley will be singing traditional English songs with that note of authority and authenticity stamped on every note.

Oct 15th * Free Admission * OPEN NIGHT
At our end of season Open Night in July we started on time, had a short interval and restricted performers to two items each - and we still had five performers that we were not able to fit in! That made us feel rather guilty so we have managed to schedule another one for the autumn.

Oct 22nd * £6.00 * DAVE RUCH
Another top American visitor, this time from northern New York State. Fine local songs and multi-instrumental tune playing. First British tour.
Oct 29th * £6.00 * LEN GRAHAM
The outstanding traditional singer with the mellifluous voice from the north of Ireland is with us again.

Nov 5th * CLOSED - LEWES BONFIRE

Nov 12th * £5.00 * BOB LEWIS
The finest of the Sussex traditional singers and a genial man with the very fine repertoire of songs. The evening will also include a showing of Jonathan Roper's film about Bob entitled "The Crocodile, the Cobbler and Bob"

Nov 19th * £7.00 * DICK GAUGHAN
Edinburgh's finest. An outstanding radical singer and guitarist and a professional musician since Jan 1970. In two months time, Dick will have been performing for a living for 40 years.

Nov 26th * £6.00 * RATTLE ON THE STOVEPIPE
The combination of Dave Arthur, Pete Cooper and Dan Stewart is a very special one and rightly they have become a very popular attraction.
Dec 3rd * Free Admission * LEWES LATE NIGHT SHOPPING OPEN NIGHT There's always lots going on in the town on this night including many visiting musicians - and they usually wind up at the Royal Oak.
Dec 10th * £7.00 * PETE MORTON, MAGGIE BOYLE & CHRIS PARKINSON present "THE MAGIC CHRISTMAS TREE TOUR"
Hilarious, entertaining, engaging, fascinating and musically excellent.

Dec 17th * Free Admission * CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT
With the resident musicians acting as the band, we have a right old song and dance.

In 2010, our guests will include:-

* SARA GREY & KIERON MEANS * MARTYN WYNDHAM-READ & IRIS BISHOP * CHRIS COE & JOHN ADAMS * ROY BAILEY * JEFF DAVIS & HOWIE BURSEN * ANDY TURNER & MATT GREEN * JEFF WARNER *

9] SESSION AT THE ROYAL OAK, BARCOMBE

This from Derrick Hughes:-

I've decided to hold a birthday session on Friday 18th September at the Royal Oak at Barcombe. I've attached an invitation for your good selves and for any other folk you think would like to come along. Would you mind sending it out on your Royal Oak mailing list too?
The end result should produce enough noise to enable me to play my serpent with impunity!
Cheers,
Derrick
