Brighton Early Music Festival 2009

23rd October – 8th November

Mark up your diaries for more dynamic offerings at this year’s festival.  Prepare to enjoy a fabulous fusion of early and traditional music and dance from East to West.

Jonglaresa opens the festival on October 23rd with intoxicating elements of Spanish, Italian, North African and Middle Eastern music.    Eclipse entertain with dance, legends and sephardic songs from the court of a thousand dreams in medieval Spain.  Indian music will be represented at two concerts – one contrasting Thumri style love songs and vibrant Kathak dance of India with sensuous solos duets and trios of  16th and 17th century Italy performed by Musica Secreta; the second starring leading British Asian Musicians and the Orlando Consort in an exotic fusion of eastern and western music from 16th century Goa.  Add to this heady brew Baroque Nomade’s fusion of Chinese and western music of the 17th century, and the Boyan Ensemble of Kiev with orthodox chant and folk music from the Ukraine.

Stir in a polychoral concert of the music of the Gabrielis and Monteverdi complete with   His Majesties Sagbutts and Cornetts and events to celebrate the anniversaries of Handel, Purcell and Haydn …..and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
