Peoples from Donegal has again accepted an invitation from Beau of
KentFolk and Valmai of The Lewes Saturday Folk Club to visit the South
East of England in the Autumn of 2009, as a Fiddlers Various special
event. Tommy Peoples is, quite simply, a living legend, the greatest
exponent of the driving Donegal style which is his hallmark. Tommy Peoples
was an early member of the Bothy Band, and has recorded numerous CDs
(discography: a, b). His remarkable self-produced CD "The Quiet Glen"
(1998) earned him Ireland's highest accolade as "Traditional Musician of
the Year", the first person to be so honoured by the Irish Government. In
spite of this he is an intensely modest man. Further information and Tickets (for Kent) :
Tenterden Folk Festival which runs from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th October includes a
procession of Morris and other folk dancers, street entertainers, giants
and mascots on Saturday 3rd October. If any of the Ashford Borough’s
performing arts groups or community organisations would like to take part
in the procession they are invited to contact us as soon as possible. Any
children taking part must be accompanied by suitable adults. Participants
should be in costume to promote an arts group’s performances or
alternatively ethnic national costume. The procession is a walking
procession and leaves Recreation Ground Road at 3.00 p.m. to process to
the Coach Park in Station Road and does not include motor vehicles.
Following the procession there is display by some of the 40 plus Morris
sides and other folk dance display teams attending the festival. Alan

Kent drummers in Guinness World
Record attempt 13th July Phil Wilson and Matt Gibson -
Drumming up support for MS PHIL WILSON lives in Rochester and has played
with a number of bands including Brian Poole, Screaming Lord Sutch, Brian
Connolly’s Sweet, Les Gray’s MUD, Edison Lighthouse, MUD II and The
Sharpee's. Phil has made numerous appearances on TV both in the UK and
Europe, he has also played many of the top venues including the NEC Arena,
Wembley Arena, Hammersmith Apollo and the Sport Paleis in Antwerp. Medway
musician Phil Wilson, former member of LES GRAY'S MUD and drummer with MUD
II, will be joining fellow 70s drummer DON POWELL from Slade to try and
smash the current Guinness World drumming record in Birmingham on Monday
13th July 2009 and raise money for Multiple Scelrosis at the same time
Phil, a professional musician for more than 30 years and a regular on the
medway music scene, is taking part in Stick it to MS, which will bring
together more than 600 drummers under one roof at the National Indoor
Arena. The world record attempt, which takes place next week, aims to
raise thousands of pounds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The existing
record is 533 drummers which was achieved at Woodstick USA in 2006.
Although there will be 600 drummers taking part, Phil is honoured to have
been selected for one of just 50 VIP places, which means he'll be keeping
the beat with a number of celebrity drummers including Don Powell from
Slade and former Status Quo drummer John Coghlan If you want to help
Phil raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis, you can donate at
