Equator brings a Latin and Indian
flavour to the Ashford Carnival
The Equator World Music Series - a celebration of world
music, dance and theatre, will be bringing a Latin and Columbian flavour to
the Ashford Carnival this year with dancers from the high profile
Mandinga Arts Company who have previously taken part in the Notting HIll
Carnival. There will be Indian dhol drummers accompanying them that
will add an international flavour to the procession. Artistic director
Priti Paintal says “ We are very happy to be involved in the Carnival this
year and we hope to contribute more international artists next year in
partnership with the Ashford Carnival Association. The workshops that
we set-up with international artists will we help more children and people
being involved. The Carnival should be a joyous occasion for all
communities to take part in and we would like to encourage and support more
cultural diversity within this event. “
Cutting-edge world music company ShivaNova will be
bringing further world-class musicians, dancers and storytellers to Ashford
as a part of the Equator World Music Series this Autumn including the world
famous flamenco guitarist - Juan Martin, and the legendary English folk
singer - Pete Coe. Equator will continue through the Autumn with acts from
