Percussion Workshop
Irish composers are invited to submit works for a percussion workshop involving the RIAM Percussion Ensemble under Richard O'Donnell, the date of which is not confirmed. One work will be selected for performance in New York in 2010. Scores for percussion quartets under six minutes in durattion should be submitted by 25 October. www.composers.ie

IMRO Songwriting Seminar

Údar an Amhráin
A new radio series will examine Irish language song. Údar an Amhráin will look at the background and traditions of singers from all over Ireland. Presented by Liam Mac Con Iomaire, the thirteen-part show will be broadcast on Fridays at 8:02pm on RTÉ Radio 1, beginning on 12 June. www.rte.ie

Hilltown New Music Festival
The Hilltown New Music Festival, which will take place at Hilltown House, Co. Westmeath on 18–19 July, has issued a call for scores. Works by composers resident in Ireland or Northern Ireland written for any combination of flute, saxophone, bassoon, violin, cello, double bass and electronics may be submitted. Works of up to ten minutes in duration should be submitted by Monday, 23 June. www.hilltown.ie

The Reel Deal
The Reel Deal, a documentary series on traditional music, begins this week. The show, which starts on Friday, 12 June at 7:30pm on RTÉ 1, is presented by Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, Brian O'Connell and Bláthnaid Ní Dhonnchadha. The programme begins with the fiddle player Tara Breen from Co. Clare as well as Tim Edey, Eamonn Galldubh, Mick O'Brien and a behind-the-scenes look at the show Dancing Through The Ages. www.rte.ie
