Hi
People...
Ok, ...Who else was at the Saturday Margate FAIRPORT CONVENTION pub rock
jump around?! And I think you also all missed TIM EDEYs fantastic last minute
gig at Ramsgates BELGIAN BAR on sunday..no wonder I was so confused by Mondays
gig !!
Ok....., a huge WELCOME...to all the people seeing this mailout for
the first time-if you did, then you were obviously at the LES DERNIERES
TROUVERES gig last monday..thanks to you, and all the performers who made it
somewhat memorable!!!! (see attached photographs).
After a weekend of
Medieval re-enactments already under everyones belts, it was so good to see so
many turn up for the final fling-and if you weren't there, you missed seeing
members of LES DERNIERES, CIRCULUS, SAND DRAGON, RELIG ORAN, DROHNE and NAOMY,
performing separately, and also together at the end! Truly wonderful, thanks
again to Kim who made it all possible from the start...
Who of course, is
bringing her own fantastic band to ORANGE STREET, for the second of Mays
gigs!!
TWILIGHT FOLK PRESENTS…
THE KIM
THOMPSETT BAND
WITH SUPPORT FROM JEM and MARTYN (RELIG
ORAN)
For
fans of early pastoral English folk music, in the vein of SANDY DENNY, PENTANGLE
and VASHTI BUNYAN.
" honest, most magickal and real, a treasure indeed

Released on 30th November 2008, Songs from the
Uglee Meadow features ten original songs inspired by nature and tales of myth
and legend. Having already won acclaim from various quarters including Michael
Tyack of Circulus and Marianne Segal, folk legend of the 1970's, and blending
medieval, celtic, folk and contemporary influences, Songs from the Uglee Meadow
should appeal to all lovers of the acoustic folk style.
"I am very
impressed. Beautiful voice and really nice arrangements. I have strong
connections with the folk world and this is one of the best things I have heard
recently." Andy Hemsley,
Journalist
Songs inspired by quiet woods, rushing streams, misty meadows,
lonely moors and dancing fires imbued with a breathless air of timelessness. A
place to lose yourself among deep cello notes, and soft bardic
vocals.
Kim Thompsett is a musician and songwriter living and
working in the South East of England. She plays guitar, flute, native American
flute and zither. Her songs have an escapist quality which evokes the England of
old with hints of Celtic, medieval and the classic folk artists of the '60's and
70's.
"I am very impressed. Beautiful voice and really nice arrangements. I
have strong connections with the folk world and this is one of the best things I
have heard recently."
Andy Hemsley, Journalist
The album "Songs from the
Uglee Meadow" is inspired by a serene and beautiful place in East Sussex called
the Uglee Meadow. With the involvement of musicians such as Will Summers from
Circulus on crumhorns, recorders and other blowy things and Philip Martin (alias
Drohne) on hurdy gurdy and pipes. Songs inspired by quiet woods, rushing
streams, misty meadows, lonely moors and dancing fires imbued with an air of
timelessness.
"very easy on the ear. Vocals, song content and variations of
styles of songs are good. Most of all, the 'vibe' ..... is lovely."
Marianne Segal, Jade
"Love the flow of it all. Kitty's Angel,
amazing!"
Michael Tyack, Circulus
Kim Thompsett's Songs from the Uglee Meadow is a moss-covered gemstone found in
an ancient Faerie vault. Timeless songs, a voice like a glass bell reflecting an
untouched mountain river, magic music captured from the luminous woods. Ultimate
soundtrack for olde-world courtships, invocations of forest deities, dancing,
putting a child to sleep - or just feeling in touch with the universe. I feel so
lucky to have found Kim Thompsett's work. The first album's great musicianship
transcends and defies all genre & pagan-folk presumptions; becoming an
exciting and fresh body of music that will last forever.

Relig
Oran mix the sounds of the African Kalimba, driving percussion, fiddle and
bouzouki with the traditional music of England, Ireland and Brittany. With
innovation and dynamics they give the music a contemporary and exciting twist,
while tipping their battered caps to the long journey from the 60’s and 70’s
psychedelic rock / acid folk. They have been described variously as ‘prog-folk’
and ‘goth-folk’. Yet at the same time Relig Oran keep the spirit, drive and
depth of the music. A respect for the tradition is always at the very heart of
Relig Oran’s music, and though there are some exciting detours on the journey,
the Relig Oran sound is always based on a deep love of traditional European
music. Relig Oran also has a website at www.religoran.co.uk with loads more
stuff.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Folk tradition par excellence, bringing their unique sound to the festival. A
treat for the senses”. Faversham International Hop Festival. "Too many
superlatives would not be enough to describe Relig Oran. They are a must-see:
great musicians, innovative and original." Debbie Ormsby, Tudor Barn Folk Club,
London. “New amazing music, thanks Sincerely”. Adam Beresewicz, Radio Bialystok
Folk Show, Poland. "The band know their stuff. Relig Oran are fast emerging as a
new force in the folk/roots scene." Steve M, Zebra Arts Magazine. “At Oranges we
pride ourselves on the quality of the music performed here, seeking always to
raise the standard of musicianship and performance. Of the many folk bands who
have played here, we can say without hesitation that Relig Oran sits at the top
of the tree. So many bands merely ‘know the words and know the tunes’. This band
has considered the dynamics of their music and brings a freshness that many
others would do well to emulate. Their version of Billy Boy is a prime example
of this. Relig Oran will be welcome here again and again”. Oranges Music Club,
Ashford, Kent. “Very entertaining - all played exceedingly well, a splendid
version of Billy Boy. A talented trio... Book them and have an enjoyable
evening”. Around Kent Folk Magazine.

Biography: Beneath The
Oak started as a jam between Paul Wale and a couple of friends from an old
Black Sabbath influenced rock band at the begining of 2007. They played their
first gig at the Black Swan in York. Since then Beneath the Oak has played many
gigs and has seen a few different incarnations! Now Paul has teamed up with
singer-songwriter Aimie J Ryan, and very recently bassist Mark Waters to form
the current line up. Beneath The Oak are working hard to make 2009 a very busy
year for themselves, and it's already shaping up nicely! They have a new E.P
ready to record in the next couple of weeks, and with their gig calendar
starting to look like a lot of fun and frolicks, Beneath The Oak are to journey
away from the shelter of the trees to wherever the wind may take them. The trio
may even pick up one or two stray saplings of The Oak along the way..
