Subject: Storytelling In Ewell, Surrey for May 2009 - THIW and Waxing Lyrical

Hi Folks

It comes around quicker every month! We had a fabulous evening last month at Three Heads in a Well adult storytelling circle with Xanthe Gresham, and she is now taking her Bag of Wonders show around the country. This month we have our own Alex Somerville as the featured storyteller- Searching Out Truth!

In the meantime Waxing Lyrical had a first meeting with 8 people who all got a chance to tell and get some coaching. We are still open to how the evening will run, so please come and give your feedback!

TALES OF THE SURREY HILLS

If you look at http://www.surreyhills.org/The-Surrey-Hills/Tales-of-the-Surrey-Hills.aspx you will see the results of the first part of the Surrey Hills Story Trail project. We are hoping to do more work on this later in the year.

Please feel free to pass this onto your networks!

Ewell Storytelling Circle for Adults
THREE HEADS IN A WELL STORYTELLING CIRCLE

Come and explore the ancient oral art of storytelling for adults.
Come as a teller or as a listener.
Explore the world of stories from the Weird to the Wonderful, from the Everyday to the Enchanted, from Surrey to Surinam.

Storyteller Alex Somerville presents "Stretching the Truth" in and amongst a cornucopia of Egyptian and Urban Myths. And threading them all together is the snake which gets everywhere from guarding a treasure at the bottom of the River Nile to hiding in a cowboy boot. A thought-provoking and spell binding show that deals with the paradox of creation and the reason why we believe in stories.

" honest, most magickal and real, a treasure indeed "
Root Deity Poems

Released on 30th November 2008, Songs from the Uglee Meadow features ten original songs inspired by nature and tales of myth and legend. Having already won acclaim from various quarters including Michael Tyack of Circulus and Marianne Segal, folk legend of the 1970's, and blending medieval, celtic, folk and contemporary influences, Songs from the Uglee Meadow should appeal to all lovers of the acoustic folk style.

"I am very impressed. Beautiful voice and really nice arrangements. I have strong connections with the folk world and this is one of the best things I have heard recently."       Andy Hemsley, Journalist

The album "Songs from the Uglee Meadow" is inspired by a serene and beautiful place in East Sussex called the Uglee Meadow. With the involvement of musicians such as Will Summers from Circulus on crumhorns, recorders and other blowy things and Philip Martin (alias Drohne) on hurdy gurdy and pipes.  Songs inspired by quiet woods, rushing streams, misty meadows, lonely moors and dancing fires imbued with an air of timelessness.
