In collaboration with fRoots magazine, EFDSS places the spotlight on the new artists of English folk who have emerged from outside the established folk scene. Artists include singers Ian King of England, Nancy Wallace, Mary Epworth and Olivia Chaney, storyteller Debs Newbold, the Wing It Singers, Cecil Sharp House Community Choir and the Suffolk Howlers.

Doc Rowe's celebrated 'Blood, Booze and Bedlam' show is a visual tour of contemporary seasonal events and traditions of the British Isles and Ireland. Doc has been documenting these traditions for over forty years and this lively one-man show uses photographic and video material from his collection.

The Blank Tape Spillage Fete is an ongoing project involving artists and musicians. Participants are invited to fill a blank cassette with anything they want of their own recorded material and then create artwork to accompany it. The resulting packages are collected and displayed in an exhibition space where visitors can listen to the tapes and peruse the artwork.

Jigs and Rituals: British Folklore on Film
From the EFDSS film collection now on permanent loan to the BFI, this evening includes Oss Oss Wee Oss (1952) made by blues song-hunter Alan Lomax, a newly restored early sound film of folk musician Sam Bennett (1926) and the 'what-the-butler-saw' type Kinoras of Cecil Sharp and George Butterworth dancing over a hundred years ago and accompanied tonight by a traditional fiddle player.

EFDSS and Sadler's Wells Theatre in association with Alex Reuben present Folk Art, Let's Dance _at_ Saddler's Wells
A screening of Alex Reuben's acclaimed film Routes, followed by performances from the renowned Appalachian performer and expert Phil Jamison, accompanied by traditional fiddle maestro Rayna Gellert, and the Tuscarora Indian Nation of North Carolina, all of whom appear in the film. They are joined by the Orchard Family one of the best known Gypsy families in the West Country, featuring electric step dancer Tommy Orchard. The evening culminates in a mouth-watering collaboration between the artists.

EFDSS and Sadler's Wells Theatre in association with Alex Reuben present Folk Art, Let's Dance _at_ Cecil Sharp House
Experts including Phil Jamison, Rayna Gellert, Tuscarora Indians and Kerry Fletcher lead talks and workshops on Appalachian step and Tuscarora Social Dance. Workshops are available for both beginners and advanced dancers. The closing night of the weekend involves the audience in late night dancing with The Orchard Family, Cajun maestros Petit et la Gross and barn dance super group Cut-A-Shine. They perform their potent crafting and updating of time honoured traditions with florid dance displays, lightening stepping, and whole audience strip the willows and Do Si Dos. A selection of archive film of folk dancing throughout the 20th Century will be screened during the evening.
