i-and-e Festival
Dulblin's i-and-e Festival takes place next weekend. The festival of 'improvised and electronic' music features Irish artists such as Jürgen Simpson and Fergus Kelly, as well as a number of musicians from overseas, such as the Berlin-based tuba player Robin Hayward and the American Wade Matthews. The events take place at the Ireland Institute (Pádraig Pearse's birthplace) at 27 Pearse Street, Dublin 2 on 20–21 March. www.i-and-e.org

National Music Symposium 
The National Music Symposium will take place at St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin on Tuesday, 24 March. A key element of the Symposium will be the presentation of findings from the Local Authorities and Music: Knowing the Score report written by Ailbhe Kenny on a two-year partnership initiative with Sligo County Council, Wexford County Council and St. Patrick's College. Other speakers include Marc Jaffrey of Music Manifesto (England) and Martin Drury of the Arts Council of Ireland. The Symposium will also feature a performance of the music of Rachel Holstead by the Irish Baroque Orchestra with soloists Gerry O'Connor (fiddle) and Sarah Sexton (baroque violin) and a performance by Aspiro, formerly the Carlow Young Artists Choir. www.artscope.ie
