Hello Everyone - Welcome back to NetRhythms and to those out on your behalf on the proud highway.

2009, the 200th anniversay of the birth of Charles Darwin, will see many celebrations, exhibitions and doubtless countless documentaries about Darwin the scientist and his theory of evolution.
What you won't be expecting is the Darwin Song Project.

Shrewsbury Festival have created this project - a unique collaboration from eight outstanding folk music writers who lived together for one week in a farmhouse close to Darwin's Shropshire birthplace. There they wrote songs inspired by events in Darwin's life, then performed these songs (at a sold-out performance in March) which was be recorded for as an album to be released later. They will perform them again at the this summer's Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
The 8 Songwriters are: Rachael McShane (of Bellowhead), Stu Hanna (of the duo Megson), Emily Smith (Scots Traditional Singer of the Year in 2008), Chris Wood (2009 BBC Folk Awards for both Folk Singer and Album of the Year), Mark Erelli (an award-winning US songwriter with a Masters Degree in Evolutionary Biology), and Krista Detor another fine American singer/songwriter. The unforgetable Karine Polwart (BBC Folk award for the Best Song Award in 2007) and UK's Jez Lowe joined them.
LISTEN AGAIN to Chris Eldon Lee's Radio 4 programme - but sharpish because I don't know how long it will be there for - where some of those involved talk about there experience. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00j8cl9/Darwin_Songs/

Since our last NetRhythms Newsletter we've done some software updating which required an address book reinstall. It may be that now we have you listed twice. If so and indeed you don't want two Newsletters, please let me know.
Take care and enjoy the music.

Love, Sue
