IMRO Call for Entries
IMRO has announced a call for
entries for it's 2009 Showcase Tour. The IMRO Showcase Tour provides a live
platform for emerging Irish music. Recent acts to have featured include Fight
Like Apes, Oppenheimer, Declan O’Rourke, Halves, Delorentos, The Immediate and
The Flaws. Bands and artists who wish to be considered for a place on the tour
should send a website or MySpace link to

before Friday, 27 February, 2009. All genres of music are welcome. Successful
acts will be notified in early March. The IMRO Showcase Tour 2009 will feature
ten live shows in venues across Ireland including Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway
and Dundalk in March and April.

Closing date for ESB Feis
Ceoil
The closing date for this year's
ESB Feis Ceoil is this week. Entries to the music competition should be
submitted by 5:30pm on Friday, 30 January.

Éigse na Brídeoige
Éigse na Brídeoige, which
celebrates the social and cultural heritage of Iveragh, South Kerry, takes place
in the area on 30 January – 1 February. This year's Éigse, which will be opened
by John O'Donoghue TD, features talks, readings, field trips and concerts. All
events are either bilingual, or will have simultaneous headphone translation.

Bóithre
Bóithre, an exhibition of
drawings by Bernice Corcoran, will open this week at the Ionan Cultúrtha, Baile
Mhuirne, Co. Cork. The exhibition, which runs until 28 February, will be opened
by musician Jim Murray on Friday, 30 January. The opening will be followed by a
concert at 8:30pm by Fiona Kelleher, Richard Lucey, Jim Murray and Ciarán
Coughlan.
