Opera 2005 Suspending Productions
The board of the Cork-based opera group, Opera 2005, has announced that it will be suspending all major productions for 2009. In a statement issued this week, the organisation cited the Arts Council's eliminatation of all funding to the organisation as the principal cause. In 2008, Opera 2005 received €110,000 from the Arts Council: 'The Board appreciates the difficult economic climate but finds the iniquitous decision to withdraw the funding from Opera 2005, compared to the €1,757,800 awarded to Opera Ireland, €1,389,000 to the Wexford Festival (who both received the same funding as in 2008) and €803,000 to Opera Theatre Company difficult to comprehend.'

Ergodos Festival
Ergodos has announced details a new festival of music, the Ergodos Festival, which will take place in Dublin on 17–26 April 2009. The 2009 Ergodos Festival will follow an ‘Off Grid’ theme, and will focus a range of unconventional performance practices. Full details will be made available later this month on www.ergodos.ie
Ergodos is currently building a team of volunteers to help run the festival. Volunteers will assist in all areas of production, from marketing to ushering, according to availability and expertise. Ergodos is also looking for people to accomodate musicians during the festival. Anyone interested in helping out as a volunteer, or by housing musicians, should contact info_at_ergodos_dot_ie
