I
have been attending Towersey Village Festival since the
2nd, in 1966 and have camped in people’s
gardens, on the Playing Field and as soon as it became
available; moved with my family and caravan to Site 2,
where we now enjoy a very quiet spot with the sounds of
the Festival and a rather vocal cockerel all around
us.
The 2007 and 2008 festivals brought us lots of
people, especially those with families, asking us to
make more room for family camping on Site 1.
They had ended up on Site 2.
One reason was ‘we had to walk with our children
each morning from the far side of Site 2 to get to the
Children’s Festival, sometimes arrived a bit late and
couldn’t always get into what we wanted.
Site 1 was full’. Another
quote from campers on Site 1 was ‘could you discourage
noisy teenagers from camping on Site 1, we like it to be
a quiet site’ and another; ‘we camp on Site 2 to get
away from Festival noise, but last year we were
surrounded by people with children, waking up very early
in the morning. Could they not all
camp on Site 1’ and there were many more like this; and
so we thought very long and carefully about making the
change and turning Site 1 into a family campsite, where
only those with children’s bookings would be able to
camp there. We certainly did consider
large family groups, baby sitters and many more
issues.
This of course has given rise to the alternative
point of view, which is very valid.
‘We camp with our family and friends on Site 1 so
that we have on site babysitters’; ‘we have always
camped on Site 1 because it is near to the Concert and
Ceilidh Tent, which makes our Towersey very special’ and
many more in support of not changing the
designation. It is
your Festival, you are the customers, I would like to
offer the opportunity to you to talk to us and help us
make the decision.
So, send
us your emails now, give us your thoughts
and tell us whether you want Site 1 left as it is,
changed into a people with children only Site, or
something else. We will have a good
look at all those and make the decision.
But you do have to move rather
quickly. We will be going on sale in
mid January. We need to hear from you
no later than Friday 9th January.
We
look forward to seeing you all at Towersey, camping,
hopefully, where you want to
be.
Best Wishes and a Happy Christmas to all of
you.
