Training Days
Thursday 20 Nov: A Practical Guide for Folk Development Practitioners is a lively, practical day focused on folk arts work and covers music, song and dance with old tricks and new twists. Working from practice towards theory, the day will offer training on repertoire, warm up and health issues and explores the challenges of facilitating creativity, individual progression and reconciling immediate success with long term development. Featuring Paul Wilson (Wren Music) and Laurel Swift (Morris Offspring and Shooting Roots).
Friday 21 Nov: A Practical Guide to Creating Innovative Community Projects featuring Joan Crump, Nikki Hampson and Damien Barber. This session will help you reinvigorate your outreach work by helping determine your motivation and the needs of the communities you are serving. Drawing upon recent experiences of work with Loughborough Folk Festival, Shepley Spring Festival and Shrewsbury Folk Festival, the panel will cover all the essential elements of your outreach strategy including the planning, participants, key partners, timescales, budgeting, marketing, evaluation and legacy.
The Association of Festival Organisers Conference
This annual event is an unparalleled opportunity to hear from some of the top names in the folk and events industry, to share ideas and to network with your fellow delegates. The AFO Conference is a place where you can voice your opinion, hear great speakers and exchange fresh ideas with hundreds of other people in the festival and events business and will keep you up-to-date with legislation, new trends, technical developments, ideas for artists and funding opportunities.
