Dear Network Folk

Prompted by Horsham Museum, we have been busy organising a concert to commemorate the connection between Ralph Vaughan Williams (RVW), folk music and Horsham.

As I am sure you know RVW died 50 years ago and took a great deal of interest in folk music, collecting many pieces from the Horsham area.  By coincidence the Horsham Folk club has been going for 50 years too and so must have one of the longest continuous histories of any folk club.

Horsham Museum has mounted a fascinating exhibition to demonstrate the connections between RVW and the Horsham area and it will be open until 20 September when the Horsham Folk Club will provide a musical finale in Horsham Parish Church of St Mary.

The concert will consist of a mixture of RVW classical music played by the Bernardi Chamber Orchestra/String Academy and folk music performed by members of the Horsham Folk Club.  It will be a top quality entertainment and illustration of the way in which folk music inspired one of England’s favourite composers.  We believe it will appeal to both classical and folk audiences and will help them appreciate the cultural heritage of Horsham.

I should be grateful if you would help publicise this exciting event and I enclose the publicity flyer.
