Tradition:DL in Dún Laoghaire this weekend
The second Tradition:DL festival in Dún Laoghaire kicks off this weekend in the Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire. Fiddle-player Paddy Glackin and English duo Spiers and Boden, the founders of Bellowhead, perform on Friday, followed by The Frost is All Over on Saturday, a new show with accordionist Tony MacMahon, uilleann piper David Power and writer Dermot Bolger. Sunday night features harpist Michelle Mulcahy, Scottish singer Julie Fowlis and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh of Danú. Plus sessions all weekend in the Gastropub. Jo Kondo in Maynooth
Japanese composer Jo Kondo will be giving two talks on his music at the Irish Composition Summer School this week. The talks, open to the public, take place in the Department of Music, Logic House, NUI Maynooth take place Monday, 28 July and Tuesday, 29 July at 10.30am. Observers can attend for €20. It features MacMahon himself on accordion, David Power on uilleann pipes, poetry from Dermot Bolger and imagery/direction from John Comiskey. The Frost is All Over takes place at the Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire at 8pm on Saturday, 2 August as part of Tradition:DL, the Dún Laoghaire Festival of Traditional Music, which runs all weekend.
