Porvari – Eastbourne based Folk/Rock/Pop duo
Eastbourne Underground Theatre 16th May 2008 8pm
This will be our 3rd Glorious Year at the UGT for what must now be classed as a great Porvari tradition! As per last year we are lining up a range of young local talent to kick off the evening; Joe Whimpenny and George O'Brien are already confirmed and we hope to add another couple of support acts. The second half will be pure Porvari - what the UGT website describes as "Original songs, many instruments (and) gutsy vocals"!Come along and see what the fuss is all about!

Sunday 20 April Derek
Gifford Derek is from the North-west of England where he is a stalwart of the
folk scene. He is well-known for his infectious enthusiasm, humour, relaxed
style and wonderful singing and guitar playing. His wide interests include sea
shanties and other songs of the sea and contemporary songs which are written in
the traditional idiom. In his twenty-five or so years as a folk singer he has
produced eight albums.
Derek has set a number of poems by Bury poet,
Keith Scowcroft, to music including When All Men Sing which has become a greatly
loved folk song 'standard' across the world. It's a favourite song of local
Sussex singer, Mike Nicholson. £6/£4
