K-City Music Tuesdays

Phil King

Tuesday 27 May 8pm

Gulbenkian Café Bar Canterbury

With spellbinding live performances and a voice that has been likened to Nick Drake, Phil King is building a name for himself with his blend of jazz, folk, soul and blues. He released his debut album Leaves in late 2006, to fantastic reviews from both regional and national press, and having performed all over the UK, his reputation as a performer and singer-songwriter is growing.

He has performed at festivals including Glastonbury Fest, Cheltenham Jazz Fest and Bath Fringe, and has supported many touring artists, such as Amp Fiddler and Kate Walsh. His music has also been played on many local radio stations, as well as on BBC Radio 2.

In addition to his solo work, he also plays regularly with The Forster King Band, which he founded with guitarist James Forster in 2004. They released Keep The Music Playing in 2006, featuring original songs alongside covers by the likes of BB King. He also performs with Backyard, an R ’n’ B Soul band which he formed in 2005, and they released These Are The Ways in 2007. With music of real depth and quality, this is entertainment to brighten up your weekday evening.

"The UK scene has long been deprived of a male jazz-soul vocalist of genuine acoustic class, minus all the bling and innuendo of lesser talents. This gap is finally being filled by the emergence of Bristol based Phil King who's quietly reclaiming jazz-infused soul " Jazzwise Magazine

On the last Tuesday of every month, K-City introduces their own brand of live music events in the Gulbenkian Café Bar. With an emphasis on original bands and performers, Music Tuesdays aims to elevate Tuesdays beyond ‘the dullest day of the week’ and present an interesting mix of rising stars and seasoned veterans.
