News from London's Southbank: "a series of folk-flavoured
events curated by the legendary Shirley Collins, featuring some of the country's
leading folk musicians. Performers include guitarists Martin Simpson and
Alasdair Roberts, singers Chris Woods and Lisa Knapp, as well as bands and
ensembles including Rattle on The Stove Pipe, Martyn Wyndham-Read with No-Man's
Band, The Hot Vultures 3 and Ned Oldham. Folk singer Shirley Collins hosts three
events discussing her musical past, influences and journeys, including her

CONTEMPORARY FOLK
MUSIC SERIES 'MY MUSIC'
Five Culture, the partnership between Five and Arts
Council England, has commissioned an exclusive series of documentaries
"exploring the musical influences of four of the most successful artists in
contemporary folk music". Produced by the Proudfoot Company, My Music consists
of four, hour-long programmes which, for the first time, gets under the skin of
musicians; Seth Lakeman, Kate Rusby, Eliza Carthy and Athena. The series
launches on Five on April 6th and is the latest in the Five Culture initiative
which sees Five and Arts Council England encourage viewers to engage in the
arts. Tom Ravenscroft, son of Radio One DJ John Peel, narrates the
programmes that focus on a separate artist in each episode. Contributors
include Billy Bragg, Jennifer Saunders, Stewart Lee and Willy
Russell.

a rich offering of English cultural delights of music and literature, all
curated by the Progressive Patriot himself. Singer-songwriter and guitarist
Bragg, who made his mark with his heartfelt, rough-hewn songs on a string of
classic albums in the 1980s, has become preoccupied with the concept of
Englishness, which inspired his 2002 CD England, Half English. He has also
written a book, The Progressive Patriot: A Search For Belonging, which explores
questions about English identity at length and with his characteristic
humour..."

NO DEPRESSION
Well - rather depressing really - No Depression, the bimonthly magazine
covering a broad range of American roots music since 1995, will bring to an end
its print publication with its 75th issue in May-June 2008. Plans to expand the
publication's website (www.nodepression.net) with additional
content will move forward, though it will in no way replace the print
edition
