Dear Network Folk

We're now back in Blighty and I'm starting the long haul on the email inbox! 225 (+557 straight to Junk).
This may take awhile!

Here's some GLEANINGS ... starting with a wonderful item for THIS WEEKEND in from Valmai - wish them luck with the weather! ...

There's a curious sporting event at the Lewes Arms on Easter Sunday afternoon:

THE SPECTACULAR "ENCIERRO DOS ANIMALES PANTAMIMOS" (RUNNING OF THE PANTOMIME ANIMALS) WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE LEWES ARMS ON EASTER SUNDAY AT 3:00PM.

SIMILAR IN MANY WAYS TO THE BULL RUN IN PAMPLONA, THIS EVENT IS THE CURTAIN RAISER TO THE MORE TRADITIONAL LEWES ARMS "EASTER EGG & SPOON RACES" THAT FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS.

AT 3:00 PM A FIREWORK SIGNALS THE START OF THE "RUN". THE SAVAGE BEASTS THAT ARE "CORRALLED" AT THE END OF CASTLE DITCH LANE WILL BE UNLEASHED. THEY STAMPEDE WILDLY DOWN THE LANE TOWARDS THE PUB.

THE "ENCIERRA" - CLAD IN THEIR WHITE SHIRTS & TROUSERS AND EMBELLISHED WITH RED NECKERCHIEFS & SASHES - RUN IN FRONT OF THE FRENZIED HERD. ARMED WITH ONLY ROLLED-UP NEWSPAPERS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES OR DISTRACT THE ENRAGED ANIMALS, THEIR AIM IS TO RUN TO THE FINISHING LINE WITHOUT GETTING GORED OR TRAMPLED UNDERFOOT! A PANTOMIME PENGUIN IN FULL FLIGHT, IS NO MEAN ADVERSARY!!

PAELLA & SANGRIA WILL BE AVAILABLE TO SUSTAIN COMPETITORS & SPECTATORS. (PROBABLY!).

VOLUNTEERS ARE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN EITHER CAPACITY / GUISE.

BE THERE BY 2:30PM TO "BAGGSIE" THE SCARIEST COSTUMES OR DON A MODIFIED BONFIRE "SMUGGLERS" COSTUME IF YOU WANT JOIN THE "ENCIERRA".

"EASTER EGG & SPOON RACES" TO FOLLOW AT 3:30PM - VARIOUS CLASSES, INCLUDING CHILDREN, VETERANS, ALL-COMERS & PANTO ANIMALS.

HIGH CALORIE PRIZES!! (THESE PRIZES & EVENTS MAY CONTAIN NUTS.)

ALL PROCEEDS GOING TO THE "SASHA ROBERTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND".

The Burgess Hill Festival kicks off in June 2008 and Snowdrop Music has lined up WATERSON CARTHY to perform on Sunday 8th June at the Martlets Hall. Waterson Carthy need little introduction and with a line up of Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy and Saul Rose you have a folk pedigree that goes back 40 years. They will be supported on the night by three up and coming singer/songwriters in
Gareth Davies-Jones, Julie Hall and Rob Halligan each of whom bring a refreshing originality and clarity in their music and lyrics.

The Burgess Hill Festival stages events such as these to provide not just entertainment but also to raise money for charities. Snowdrop Music is a supporter of the Freetrade Foundation and Stop The Traffik. Both of these organisations exist to give people a better chance in life, either through paying a fair price for their produce or by campagning to end modern slavery. All off the profits from the this event will be going to these charities.
