"…the renaissance man of English folk"
The Irish
Times
Kent-born Chris Wood is an
uncompromising writer whose music reveals his love for the un-official history
of the English speaking people. With gentle intelligence he weaves the tradition
with his own contemporary parables, drawing from his experiences of English
church music, and also traditional music from
His writing has been said to be
timeless, with his solo album The Lark
Descending causing such ripples in the mainstream that his recently released
follow up album, Trespasser has been
one of the most anticipated folk discs in recent memory. This thought provoking
and intelligent album challenges and rewards in equal measure, and is full of
fragile beauty and profoundly human warmth.
His appeal goes way beyond those who
think they like English folk music - even to those who think that they
don't.
"Contemporary hero of the English folk
tradition...radical, fierce, compassionate, humane, political, proud, tender,
humorous, critical and frank. Wood's work speaks directly to anyone concerned
with English life and society... his impact is immediate and direct."
On the last Tuesday of every month,
K-City introduces their own brand of live music events in the Gulbenkian
Café Bar. With an emphasis on original bands and performers, Music Tuesdays aims to
elevate Tuesdays beyond ‘the dullest day of the week’ and present
