TOM KITCHING & GREN BARTLEY - Friday 8th February - The Guildford Institute--------
On Friday 8th February the young duo Tom Kitching and Gren Bartley will be making their first appearance at a folk club in the South East when they come to the Guildford Institute.
Tom's fiddle playing got him to the finals of BBC Radio 2's Young Musician of the Year and Gren's guitar playing has been described as "fabulous" (John Kirkpatrick), "beautiful" (BBC Radio 2) and "a young guitarist to look out for" (Johnny Coppin). They came together as a duo in 2006 and raised their profile with main stage appearances at several festival last year (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lJQR3_l8Sw ). Their first album elicited the following review from Living Tradition magazine - "Tom must be one of the best young fiddlers in England, with a fluid style equally at ease with the English, American and Irish traditions".
Admission £9.00 (£8.00 members) - tickets will be available on the door or in advance from http://www.themusicinstitute.org.uk
BARN DANCE with THE WATCH and PETE REES - Saturday 9th February - Godalming Borough Hall--------
Lawrence and Linda have run the dances at Godalming Borough Hall since August 2006 and with the exception of a five year respite (thank you Carol and Erling) have run them throughout that time. They are now looking to hand over the dances to a new organiser(s) but as we have received no offers this will be the last GBH Ceilidh, but what a way to go!
The Band - The Watch - consists of Gareth Kiddier (ex-Bismarcks), Dan Quinn (ex-Flowers & Frolics, Gas Mark 5, etc.) and Rob Murch (of The Dartmoor Pixie Band) - a marriage made in ceilidh heaven). Calling the dances will be Pete Rees (also heavenly!)
The dance will be on Saturday 9th February (Doors 7.45, dance 8.00, end 11.30) at Godalming Borough Hall, Bridge Street, Godalming GU7 1HR
Admission £10.00 (£9.00 members) - tickets will be available on the door or in advance (with a £1.00 discount) from - http://www.gbhceilidhs.org.uk
P.S. Any offers to take over?
