Friday 1st  February    BOAT BAND 
The BOAT BAND are :Greg Stephens (guitar, banjo), Kate Barfield (fiddle, trombone),  Tony Weatherall (accordions) and they all share the vocals. Well known to Cajun enthusiasts for their authentic dance music, they have also explored their native Cumbrian music over the years and we look forward  to tunes and songs  from both traditions tonight.

After playing for many years, trawling the venues of Britain and beyond, THE BOAT BAND have picked up a huge and varied catch of tunes: Creole, Caribbean, gospel, Cajun, zydeco and blues - not much slips through the net.If it touches the heart and moves the feet, it's in the repertoire.

Their latest venture takes the band away from the cajun twosteps of South Louisiana to the dance music of northwest England, drawing on the rich tradition of some thousands of tunes collected by and from the musicians of Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. The favourite current source of good tunes is the Langdale fiddler William Irwin. and The Boat Band have just released new CD "A TRIP TO THE LAKES" featuring these tunes. Come along and enjoy the English tunes and songs nestling in alongside the already eclectic offerings.

Friday 29th  February   Róisín White    
                                                                with The Rakes

One of the foremost song carriers of the Ulster tradition, Roisin has a wonderful rough velvet voice and a jaunty style all her own. We are delighted to welcome her back .

Róisín White has become one of the foremost song carriers of the Ulster tradition. Born in County Down, she acquired her interest listening to her mother sing around the house. She studied Irish Gaelic and absorbed traditional singing at one of the Aran Islands from a small community where singing was very common and natural. She has learned songs directly from countless source and revival singers, including Len Graham, Eddie Butcher, Paddy & Bridget Tunney, and Robert Cinnamond.
      Róisín has absorbed the traditional culture and made her own robust and jaunty singing style. Retired from teaching Irish for a living she now teaches singing at various singing weekends and week-long schools, and performs at festivals in several countries. She has recorded  "The First Of My Rambles" and will shortly be bringing out her second CD. says Brian Peters: "she sings with warm,earthy honesty and bags of rhythm and swagger."

Solidly representing the Old Folk in our club mantra, Bob Davenport is, at 70, one of the stalwarts of the tradition. It don't get more authentic than this. This mans character is as fiery as his stage act and singing style. He's done it all. Sung with all the greatest and biggest names, run folk clubs in London (gulp!), you name it. We are thrilled to hosting a rare performance from Bob, joined by a host of talented musicians.

Emma Tricca is a fast rising star of the folk-acoustic scene, with great things in store. Soon to release an album produced by some luminaries of the music industry (to remain nameless!), we are proud to host a show. Emma played our open mic almost a year ago so it is with great pleasure that we welcome her back for a featured slot at the nest.
