Mumming plays and Morris are part of our English heritage and Ditchling Morris’s principle aim and objective is to promote this. We perform Morris dances in the Cotswold and Border styles and Mumming plays from Sussex of which there are 17 in total. Mummers plays are possibly medieval and are about healing and resurrection.
This year’s play comes from the village of Sompting, the principle characters being St George, Father Christmas, the Doctor and a Turkish knight.
It is a very popular event and last year attracted well over 300 people at the Bull in Ditchling.
Timing for this very traditional event is;
Saturday 22 December – Lewes Pedestrian Precinct at 11.00am and 2.00pm
