Folk South West is delighted
to announce the Stanchester Quire’s 2007 Christmas concert series -
“Hallelujah!” and the premiere of their new carol “Shepherds In Their Field
Abiding”. Taking place across the area to the south of Yeovil, these concerts
are certain to entertain all the family and create a little festive
cheer!
Director of Folk South West
and musical director of the Quire, Eddie Upton says “The South West of England
has a wealth of wonderful Christmas music which is rarely sung and therefore
little known. Our Christmas concerts this year feature some really exciting
music from the region, filled with glorious harmonies and stirring rhythms. The
highlight of the concerts will be the unveiling of the Stanchester Quire’s own
carol “Shepherds in Their Field Abiding” specially commissioned from the great
folk musician and composer John Kirkpatrick. This is a rousing new song which
will amaze everyone who hears it.”
The Quire sing songs that
originate from the South West region but the new carol is something completely
different to their usual repertoire and all the members of the Quire are really
looking forward to performing the new piece. The youngest member of the Quire,
Ellen Robotham says, “This piece is a new challenge for the Quire but one that
we are enjoying. The music is so vibrant and the play on words makes it
completely irresistible so you can’t help but love it!”
The concerts will be fun for
all and are guaranteed to get even the most reluctant into the Christmas spirit
- Hallelujah!!
